A 25 year-old man, Shaibu Tanko, has been arraigned before a Kano chief magistrate for allegedly stabbing a commercial driver to death.
The police said the alleged killer passenger, had contracted the deceased, Lawan Dauda, 24, to convey goods from Kano to Zaria, and stabbed him with a knife on the Kaduna highway.
The police said a red golf belonging to the murdered driver, with registration no KMC819XW worth N500.000.00, was recovered from the alleged killer.
The Police prosecutor told the court that the accused person committed the offence on January 12, violating the provisions of the robbery and fire arms act. The police prosecutor said the act contravenes the provisions of the penal code laws of Northern Nigeria.
But the accused, Mr. Tanko, told the court that the offences of armed robbery and culpable homicide levied against him before the court were fictitious.
He told the court that he boarded the vehicle as a passenger before they were attacked by armed robbers.
He stated that the red vehicle belonging to the deceased commercial driver was not in his possession as alleged by the police.
The court presided over by Chief Magistrate, Ibrahim Khalil, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody. Mr. Khalil adjourned to April 30 for further mention.
