PROLOGUE

The sniper surged forward through the crowd at the park, darkness overwhelming the still night, his bag held firmly behind, his face cap and a stick of cigarettes held the other hand as he continuously blew the grey-whitish choking smoke out from his nostrils in haste.

He walked down the street, the dark night calmed as a grave yard, distant voices head afar, hooting of the city birds piercing through the stillness of the night. The rough terrain of the tarred road he walked upon, in contact with the stud of his sneakers, it made a dull irritated sound, like a grunting pig, ready to be slayed.

Then he saw the building, the one in the picture, given to him by his lord, lord of the creed to which he belong and will forever be, till death tore him apart. A skyscrapers it was, situated at the road side, he walked towards it, opened the door and went up into the elevator. Dragging his heavy bag like a stubborn bull dog.

Getting to the 15th floor of the building, he brought out his tools for the great task ahead, comprising off an ak47 and .45mm rifle.

The sniper knelt on the platform, eyes overlooking the bar, gazing across the city, finally focusing on the lonely road below him.

The urge to drag in another mist of smoke was increased as he threw the remnant of the first out across the bar.

He breathed in and out, pressing his eyes lightly to the periscope, temporary attach to the ak47. His eyes bloodshot, eyes of one used to looking at death.

His urge he couldn't tame, inserting his hands into his breast pocket, he brought out a pack of cigarette. Contemplated, to smoke it or shouldn't. Because he knew it was dangerous, very dangerous and risky. Who knows, maybe a sniper is hiding the next block, probably waiting to be sure a soul in in and wouldn't hesitate to fire a lead bullet, capable of turning a complete being into shattered pieces of meat.

The sniper unzipped his bag and brought out a bottle filled with liquor, hot enough to burn the throat of a toddler. He gulped down the burning liquidous substance, corked and settled it beside him.

His right fingers romancing the trigger of his rifle solidly placed on the platform. He smiled, his target was on sight. Down below was a man with a hood on his head, definitely disguising. His back laden with a bag which seemed to the snipers trained eyes heavy.

He drew in enough air and a pull on the trigger sent the man sprawling on the road, legs shaking, brain matters thrown into the air, leaving behind a repugnatic grotesque side view of a once handsome man, murdered in the cold night, in the lonely street of crescent.

The content of the heavy bag having landed on the ground with a dull thud let out a beeping sound sound, repeated continuously until the tenth beep, after which it exploded, consuming the remains of the man in black, shrapnels of the bomb hauled into the air.

The sniper watch in delight as his victim was ablazed. Unable to subdue His urge he took out a cig Atleast, to celebrate his victory. His trained eyes scanning the opposite nearby building.

A risk he was about to take. He discarded the caution, lighted and dragged in a hell of the smoke.

Immediately, a report was made. His name wasn't on that bullet,...... Not yet....

He ducked in a flash. Smiled underneath the bar, he was right afterall, his instinct never failed him, but times without number has he failed his instinct.

The sniper raised his head slightly above the bar, he tried locating the spot the bullet and sound rang from. The darkness that surrounded him didn't allow that.

Shortly after the first, another shots rang out, wounding the calm night. The pungent smell of a burning flesh hang loosely in the air.

He smiled again, glanced at the platform, a pillar situated feet away from him will provide a better spot to sight his opponent. He rose a little above the bar and fired sporadically at the building, shattering thousand of glasses, disturbing the peace of peace of the night. The deafening sound rang through the city, the hot smoke from the nozzle of the rifle made his surrounding a little uncomfortable and bleak to see through.

A shot from his opponent, and the bullet which had his name on it plunged deep into his left biceps.

He shuddered in his agony, rifle out of his grasp, bounced off the parapet and went down... Down to the ground with a cackling sound.

Teeth clench, fist folded, the sniper crashed on to the platform, unconsciously knocking off his dear bottle. The bullet wounded arm soiled his blazer sleeves with blood.

It tool him a great deal of power to unstucked a knife he hid under his boots. Using it to cut off the sleeves, revealing the deep reddened wound. Arms feeling dead, heavy like a log of wood. The pains hitting him like tides washing up the bank of an ocean continuously.

A soft breeze blew, taking away with it the smoke that remained, hovering in the air.

He rose, supporting himself with his right hand, he sat up on The floor, legs stretch apart, right hand reached across the bottle, the cork pulled out by his teeth, he hungrily drained the alcoholic content of the bottle. His arm paining like a thousand demons.

The satisfaction and feeling of carrying out his boss orders was music to his ears... Until the symphony ended with a lead bullet lodged into him. An idea popped into his vague head and his instinct concurred to it.

A silhouetted figure was sighted on top the parapet of the building opposite. He had to retaliate, and fast.

As phobic anxiety and synchronously with a great verve surged through him, he rose with determination to take out his enemy before it was too late.

His cap in his right hand and the empty bottle in the other, he placed and fitted the cap on to the bottle and raise it over the bar, cautiously.

Almost immediately, a bang was made, he ducked and smiled. The bullet pierced through the cap and stucked into the wall behind him.

His Idea worked out, he mentally Congratulated himself. He enemy would definetly think he was taken out. Whosoever the enemy was, he pronounced he was good, extremely good.

The sniper layed low for a while, his .45mm rifle held firmly. The silhouetted figure rose, his full height in view, rubbing his hands.

Rifle ready, grasping with all the verve in his arms, pounding heart beat, teeth gnashing, his wrinkled face growing up in mounds and his arm paining like hell. He breath in and gave a great pull at the trigger. Synchronously releasing his breath as he shook vigorously from the recoil, leaving him temporarily deaf. The choking smoke filling him satisfied.

Metres away, the figure got struck by the aimed bullet, he staggered, unable to maintain balance, hands on his chest, blood flowing out in pool. The gun he held went out of his grasp, bounded off the roof, off the saloon shop and to the rough ground.

The sniper watched as his opponent fought for balance and breath, he fell of the roof, turned countless times in space and fell to the ground with a dull thud.

For the first time in his life, the sniper felt the pangs of guilt hit him like a thousand train. He just killed a man? He's been doing this for years and his profession to be precise, but why the guilty feeling?

Throwing off his rifle into space he went down the building. Just to have a view of the man he murderd. He walked toward the corpse, the pungent smell of burnt less filled the air. Once there, he turned over the body and looked into his fathers face.

CHAPTER 1

"Honey i want to take you somewhere" Betty, wife of Mr Patrick, lover to his brother, said to James as they smooched in the bath tub. Door locked, grasping for breath as they kissed.

Patrick, brother to James was away to a conference in Kenya. The quandom minister of tourism, was among the quodrum, chosen to attend the meeting. He had called his wife, betty a day before saying he won't be back till a week later. Betty finding this as the best news of the month immediately invited her lover James, who with immediate alacrity came home, to her. With bag, toys; for the kids, ken and Sandra, and a wallet completely stacked with condom; for him and her.

This was the chance and he opportunity he dreamt of and woundnt wait to explore it to the very end.

Betty, the slutty wife has been having extra marital affairs with her husbands brother. And so today, they both found themselves, smooching away time, in the bath tub.

"where will that be honey" James asked seductively in his deep baritone voice, hands trailing of hair, unto her bosoms, he squeezed them lightly, earning moans from her.

"shhh! You wouldn't want the maid and they kids to hear, would you?"

"they wouldn't dare"

"so what your plan for today?"

"going out"

" to where?"

"that secret...."

"i don't like mystery"

"the cenima...after we have another romp. She said grinning at him and his manhood. He grinned back, arms grabbing, lips attached...... In a minutes, pounding with reckless abandon. The romp they had.....the best they ever had.

Hours later, they were dressing up in their different room. They dare not stay in the same room, not to spark suspicious stares from their kids and maid.

"mummy where are you going?" asked ken, twins brother to Sandra. They both sat on the couch, in the parlour, watching their kiddies program aired by dstv.

The ten years old Sandra, fiddling with the baby doll, uncle James gave her.
She stared at the exposed bosoms of her mother. Why was mum dressed this way when going out with uncle? She has never been dressed in such an ungodly manner when dad was around. And she vividly remembered the day they came back from church, women stood by the road side, with skimpy skirts and weird make up smeard all over their face like a masquerade. Dad had said they were possessed, was mum possessed?

"we are going to visit Mrs Simon new baby" replied betty, casting a glance at James, who in his natty dress, looked handsome and appealing. Oh! How she love this man and despise her husband. She wondered why on earth she didn't meet him before she got married to her nagging man, Patrick.

" Mrs Simon baby? Mum am coming" ken said dropping his car toy.

"no! Not today, when dad is around, we'll go together"

"ma..your breakfast is ready" announced bisi, interrupting. A girl of 18yrs, naturally so beautiful, smart, and always receptive to the orders and Advice hauled to her by her madame.

Betty do envy, accounting for The hatred she treasured against her.

"keep that till am back, take care of them" she said pointing to the kids as she headed out.

Ken immediately started sobbing, the promiscuous James soothed him with promise of gifts and toy.

" lets take him along" he said to betty.

" he is going no where" said betty in a tone of finality.

He rose and the duo headed out of the house, into the car and into the street. Leaving behind shocked bisi, Sandra and ken, who cried himself to sleep.
***************

The taxi stopped at the front of the gate, the door opened and Patrick stepped out. Paid his fare, got his luggages and walked to the gate.

"oga....ga welcome" grinning adamu greeted his oga. The man not only ugly, but positively gross.

"how are you?"

" oga i cool...oga welcome"

"thank you"

"okay oga....welcome" he repeated continuously. Adamu, always repeated what he said first countless time. Patrick was used to that.

"take that bags in, " he adjured.

"yes oga...welcome"

"Welcome sir" the maid greeted as he went into the house. Too tired to notice the young lad, curled up on the sofa.

"how are the children?"

"fine sir"

she got the bags from adamu and took them to the master bedroom.

Patrick contemplated going for his children first or taking of his clothes, his wife he knew was out, her car wasn't in the garage. He choose the former and walked to their room.

"daddy...........welcome daddy...." screamed Sandra joyously, jumped unto her father.

" thank you dear, how are you? Where is ken?"

" he is in the sitting room...daddy mum said you will be back next week"

"sitting room? Maybe i didnt check... yes....i changed my mind, where is your mum? "

" she went out with uncle James"

"uncle James is here? Since when?"

" since Thursday( a day ago)daddy mummy is possessed"

But Patrick was too tired to hear the last statement, he Kissed her forehead and proceeded to his room.

continuation

It was 7pm already when They proceeded home, after promising themselves series of romantic promises. Betty behind the wheel, James by her side, hands on her laps, sliding down into her....

" don't make me loose it" cautioned betty as she navigated towards their house. The gate was opened by Adamu the ugliest being in the house. They got out of the car, betty resting on James, his hands circled her waist...... She never knew her hubby was back, they never knew he was back.

As they flung open the door, seated on the sofa was Patrick, the kids by his side, watching a home video.

Patrick and the kids engrossed in the movie didnt notice the shocked duo. Not until the fragrance of bettys perfume got to him, he raised his face, theirs eyes clicked.

His eyes, surprised at the skimpy dressed and exposed bosoms of betty, who stood with a Blanche demeanour, in an apoplexy state.

James was quick to put aside the shock, he advanced towards his brother, in a brittle mood, hands stretched out for a shake.

Betty tagged along, a smile on her face A one that didn't reach her eyes.

"brother.... Welcome... I heard you will be back next week...."

Patrick without suspecting anything fishy, even happy to see his wife in good health but disappointed in her mood of dressing.

"james... Where una been go? " he swerved to pidgin.

" a friend party, never knew your wife could dance" he said and betty feigned blushing.

Ken, gave a look at James, why lieing? He thought they said they were going to visit Mrs Simon new baby.

"honey welcome" betty said feeling all agitated with her brittle mood.

"you said next week but here you are, how was your trip?" she asked sitting beside ken.

"you should be happy to see me ....the meeting is adjourned"

The discussion were cut short when sounds of gun shoots came from the nearby neighbours.

A cry pierced the air, it needed no prophet to tell the family that arm robbers were having a field day .

That night was a turn around in their lives. Maybe because they couldn't pray well. Yes! That the reason, they couldnt even pray.
***********
09:00pm
The man surged forward, the crowd was thick, and this the environment he was adjured to commit the devilish act.

The man in agbada, bulging between his waist and laps. Only trained eyes will suspect a hidden object is tied round him.

Feeling queasy , he kept on moving forward, his hands in his pocket, without making any eye contact with one, perspiring at night, in such a cold weather.

His heart beat skipping beats. When he couldn't move through the crowd at the night market again, he decided to commit the act there. And so, drawing in his breath, hands curled around the bomb denoter, he press dragged the attached wire.

A thunderous bang was released, shattering the man in agbada to pieces, fire engulfed the people around him, the bomb shrapnels sticking into flesh, hauled into the air dangerously.

Chaos and confusion set into the market, people flee for their lives, traders leaving behind their goods.

A part of the market was ablaze, resulting from the bomb.

Twenty minutes later, the news was reported
BREAKING NEWS: Suicide bomber denoted a bomb, twenty killed, market on fire
