As Nigerians patiently wait
for the declaration of the
winner of the Presidential
elections held on March 28,
2015, after peacefully
exercising their franchise, the Nigerian military has
recoded another huge
victory against the terrorist
group Boko Haram.
The Nation reported on Monday
that officials of the 301 Artillery
Regiment (General Support) of
the Army killed three Boko
Haram insurgents and arrested
one. It was gathered from an Army
Captain, who did not want his
name in print, that the Islamist
militants took the fight to the
Nigerian troops at a check point
near Dukku, the headquarters of Dukku Local Government,
Gombe State. The captain further revealed
that the operation which started
at about 00.30 hours lasted for
one hour. He listed the items recovered

Other recovered items include a
pair of mobile police uniform
with Clement Ahmadu inscribed
on it, two jerry cans of petrol,
tyre patching materials, motor
vehicle spare parts, one empty AK 47 magazine and two empty
boxes of armour. The army captain also revealed
that one INEC smart card
reader meant for Nafada Local
Government polling unit was
recovered, one empty INEC
bag, three bags of rice and one pot of boiled rice. The Army officer urged
residents of the area to remain
calm and assured them of
adequate protection from the
security operatives that are on
ground. Boko Haram members on
Saturday, March 28 wreaked
havoc in parts of the state. The
Islamist militants killed no fewer
than seven people, comprising two personnel of the
Independent National Electoral
Commission, and a police
officer on election duty. The insurgents also lost five of its members to officials of the joint security operatives in
Dukku when it attacked and

Boko Haram has killed
thousands of people as well as
displaced many since it began
its onslaught in 2009. Boko
Haram is a Hausa word that
means “Western education is a sin,” but it is officially called
Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna
Lidda’Awati Wal-Jihad. The Islamist movement which
is based in the North-Eastern
part of the country is also
operational in Chad, Niger and
northern Cameroon. The U.S. State Department
designated Boko Haram a
terrorist organizations in
November 2013. Nigeria’s general elections were
recently postponed by six
weeks because of the sect’s
menace, a development that
made the Federal Government
to allegedly employ hundreds of mercenaries from South Africa
and the former Soviet Union to
assist in securing victory before
the commencement of the
March 28 elections.
