Let me tell you why Jonathan found huge favour and loyalty amongst the Igbo. He's the best president ever to the cause of the Igbo. It can be fairly said that his tenure saw an increase in the federal presence of Igbo. Pre-2010, there were a lot of cries and complaints by the Igbo about marginalization. Igbo people were very few to be found in the federal level. South east was abandoned and desolated. Jonathan came in and circumstances changed, south east experienced some level of federal presence in it. Do you still hear of Igbo marginalization right now? When last did you hear Igbos screaming marginalization? Jonathan, in the history of past presidents, is the only president who was pathetic to the Igbo cause, who made Igbos begin to feel they were indeed a part of the country. He never looked at Igbos as past presidents were won't to - as third-class citizens who deserve no say or rights in the country. He appreciated the hardworking and talented traits of the Igbo. And even though Jonathan had his obvious flaws, Igbos still decided to play safe during this last election by voting for someone who had given them a sense of belonging in a country that had marginalized them since 1970. He shall forever remembered in the minds of the Igbo. The Igbos are loyal, they don't double-deal, and are straight forward, and that is one lesson Jonathan will take home with him. Once they are in for you, they are in for you. They don't deflect at the last minute.

Igbos don't regret voting for Jonathan. They voted massively for him. They took the chance. South East was one region Jonathan could bank on anytime, anyday that he was assured of their loyalty and support. SE was second home to him. The SS-ers are fast learning from what happened that the Igbo man isn't their problem after all, as they have been lied to, and are now seeing them as their big brother. Sadly, Asari Dokubo and Edwin Clark had to learn this fact the hard way.

Now that Buhari has taken over, MUCH is expected of him. Nigerians didn't vote him in merely because he is Buhari, they did because they were tired of Jonathan's lack of proactivity. If a goat had contested against Jonathan, Nigerians would have still voted the goat in, so far as it is not Jonathan that would continue in the next 4 years. Jonathan is a good man but he was surrounded by bad aides. Buhari's euphoria of 'change' swept across the entire country and much is expected of him. He is a 'messiah' of sorts and Nigerians are sitting patiently waiting for sweeping changes. Come 2019, should he tow the path of his predecessors - take the sidetrack and watch the country further delve into shambles, the euphoria of change that swept him in will sweep him out accordingly.
