Information Technology is wide and requires specialization if you truly want to become an expert. You don't have to do a BSc. in computing to be an IT expert... it's all about taking professional courses and certification exams.

Specializations like Web Design & Development, Networking, Information Security and Programming are one of the most popular areas to look into. Once you have successfully made a choice to follow a career path, you should work towards becoming an expert in that field by doing courses in computer schools or online schools like Coursera... take your time and be good at what you do. Rome was not built in a day.

Hope this helps...
