As Christians; the reason we are called that is because we are expected to live a life of comportment with that of Christ, having a Godly Image, Christ-like life and behaviour.
So Self sex, Masturbation, pleasing oneself, is it a sin according to the Bible?

The Bible doesn't really say anything about masturbation, or the word used not even in a concept.
The closest people have gotten allusion to is in Genesis 38:9;

And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother. - KJV

The case of Onan who spilled his seeds on the group, becuase he didn't want to raise up a child after his brother's name, which actually has nothing to do with masturbation at all.

So, there is really nothing of reference to masturbation in the bible.

The principle of lust however, Jesus speaks in Matthew 5:28

"But I say unto you, that whosoever shall looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart" - KJV
Now, the real question is, can you masturbate without having lust?
And I think the obvious answer to that is the only way you could've actually pleased yourself sexually is that you were arousing yourself lustfully.
So, the answer to that (is masturbation a sin), would be YES! Masturbation is something to stay away from.

What I have found is the principle and not the concept in the original. Apostle Paul said 1Thessalonians 4:2-5

For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:

Possession of vessel, your body is your vessel. One of the most strategic thing, sex is a very powerful thing. If a man finds a way to please himself, without having to work hard winning the affection of a woman and being committed in marriage and keeping of his/her energy directed. If you squandeer that energy, overriding it in different ways, you are less motivated to be the kind of man God wants you to be, becuase you don't really have to be, if you find another way.

There was actually a rock star who said he was tired of one night stands, he was tired sexual relationship and women, because it was too hard and its too much work; and so for him, it was much easier to use pornogrphy to please himself. I think that says it all. It is work to deny yourself, to resist those temptation, to fight against those urges and to channel that energy to productive means so that you can become that Godly man or woman.
When you do good things come as a result of that self control.

Stop the habit and control yourself

Reconcile with your wife, else you fall into the sin of lust hence leading you to self service. There must have been reason(s) why she's staying away from you; speak with her.

You have got to subdue yourself, but of course if you are not saved yet, you need to get saved! All you need is the grace of the Lord; of course temptation shall arise, your body would demand it, but the grace subdues it all.
