A close examination of some conversations between Nigerians shows that many are ignorant of differences between names of commodities and brand names. I wanna highlight Seven common error conversations between buyers and sellers. It is not news though, that even literate people are victims of these. Buyer1: Good morning ma. I want to buy Macclean Seller: Which type? Buyer1: Close up. Buyer2: Madam, I want to buy omo Seller: Which type? Buyer2: Big Ariel Buyer3: I want to buy indomie Seller: Which type? Buyer: Mimee noodles Buyer4: Mama Sade, I want to buy #10 maggi Seller: Which type? Buyer4: Royco or chicken flavour. Anyone sha. Buyer5: Mama Nkechi, shey u dey sell fruit? Seller: Which type u want? Sebi na dem full ground for here. Buyer5: No o. Dis ones na orange and banana. Na fruit gangan I need. The one wey dey get groundnut inside. Buyer6: I want to buy maltina Seller: Which type? Buyer6: Malta Guiness Buyer7: Guy, u get desktop charger? Seller: Yes sir. Na im be dis Buyer7: Ok. Shey na original sha? So how much last... For chrissake, what is desktop charger? Many people are guilty of dat. Even many people reading dis. Please, add urs and let's learn to separate brand names from specific names of commodities. Some will say those words are acceptable as far as the people involved understand each other, but it is wrong. We don't have a Nigerian English. Therefore, our words should conform with the British English that we speak. ***Modified*** Correct words for d above: *Tooth paste *Detergent *Noodles *Seasoning cube *Almond *Malt drink or mention d specific brand u want straight. *Universal charger 1 Like 2 Shares |

Those are common cliche in Nigeria lol. Buyer: I wan buy tea Seller: Okay which one, lipton or green tea? Buyer: No nah! Bournvita. Bournvita is not tea, it's hot chocolate. Milo as well is hot chocolate. To be brutally honest, what we call 'tea' in Nigeria is most times hot chocolate - unless you using a tea bag! 2 Likes 1 Share |
