By Olajide Ojedokun Take me to the street of music Where melody fills the air And rhythm rocks the home Take me to the street of music Where tears mix with joy And laughter mix with dance Where the only weapon is music Where the only language is peace Where chaos flees at the site of harmony And embrace wines and dines in its canopy Take me to the street of music Where the breave works in harmony with the semi breave And the minime dears not minimize the crochet nor quaver the quaver Where the semi quaver stand in union with the demi semi quaver And the demi semi quaver make's peace with the hemi demi semi quaver in the presence of mother treble clef and father bass clef right in the home of the grand stave Take me to the street of music Where movement is groovy And silence is risky Where the music is fast and slow happy and sad Where the rule is unwritten Yet has us all submitten Where tango accords salsa its deserved respect And bataa banters not in the presence of bale Where the hippy hoppy nature of hip hop is in solemnity with the brake dance And the rocky land scape could do nothing to subdue hard rock Nor obstruct the movement of the soft rock Where enchantment flows and glows in the river of jazz And the deep blue sea echoes the praise of rhythm and blues Where nothing is as high as high life Nor as appealing as the apala Where refugees loose their sorrows to fuji And africans africanise americans and all others through the uncommon charms of the afrobeat Where reggae is the spoken language of the rasters And dance hall has its hall of dance Take me to the street of music Where the angelic voice of angelique kidjo kiss away our worries And the soul lifting renditions of Asa assert's it's dominance on our inner beast Where the rhymes of busterhyme rhythmically lands on the steps of our heart And the twisting thong of twister twists our thoughts to itself Where the beautiful folk songs of Beautiful Nubia gives us a sense of belonging And timidity couldn't curtail the boisterous voice of Timi Dakolo Where nostalgia is driven into our hearts by the heartfelt compositions of Nosa And the lyrics of dagreen in our heart stays evergreen Take me to the street of music Take me in a blindfold so I won't know my way home And when I finally get there Burn the bridge |
