northern nigeria(Arewa)is the former northern region which is now divided into 20 states including fct abuja.the states are adamawa,abuja,bauchi,benue,borno,kano,kaduna,katsina,kebbi,kwara,kogi,jigawa,sokoto,yobe,gombe,taraba,nasarawa,plateau,zamfara,niger.almost sixty percent of the population of nigeria lives in the northern region.below are some beautiful pictures of arewa KANO kano which is the largest city in northern nigeria has successifully overtook kaduna interms of infrastructural development.it is the second largest city in nigeria coming after lagos.kano metropolis is made up of seven local government areas,it is the most industrialized town in northern nigeria. KADUNA kaduna is the second largest and important city in the north after kano,its has a population of over 2m,it is the capital of former northern region and its also a military town housing the only military university and largest polythecnic in nigeria it has the peugeot assembly plant and its also a very important railway junction,many important roads connecting north and south also pass through kaduna picture 1 kano 2 kano 3 kano 4 kaduna |

SOKOTO sokoto is a town located in the northwestern corner of nigeria,it is the capital of the ancient usmaniyya empire(sokoto caliphate)it has a population of over 0.6m.it is also the home of sokoto cement which is also the largest cement factory in the north.the sultan(leader of nigerian muslims)is also living in sokoto.

JOS jos has a very nice weather due to its high altitude.it is most industrialied town in northcentral it houses the popular nasco group of companies it is also a commercial town with one of the biggest market in west africa(terminus market)jos has a population of 0.9m

MINNA the capital of niger state is located in the northcentral region west of the fct.minna is now expanding rapidly due to population influx into the city.it has a population of 0.4m people

ZARIA no doubt zaria is among the major towns in nigeria, with a population of over 1.2m people zaria is the 5th largest city in the north coming after kano,kaduna,maiduguri and Abuja.zaria has the largest concentration of educational institute in north notable among them are the renown Ahmadu bello university,nigerian college of aviation,Nigerian college of Transport Technology,Federal college of Education,Zaria polytechnics to mention a few.the concentration of these institutions of higher learning made zaria famous regionally,nationally,and internationally.others are Nigeria leather institute Ahmadu bello university teaching hospital.zaria has 3 metropolitian local government which are:zaria,sabon gari and Giwa.Another name of zaria is Zazzau.
