Flying Eaglesstriker, Taiwo Awoniyi continued his superb form for the national Under-20 side after he scored a hat-trick in the team’s 5-2 win against Hoffenheim’s U23 side in Germany.
Both teams were tied at 2-2 at half time after Saviour Godwin and Chidera Ezeh put the Eagles ahead twice in the first half before the Germans equalized on both occasion.
Awoniyi was introduced in the second half of the game and the gangling striker proceeded to score three times to help the Nigerian side secure the win.
Speaking after the match, Flying Eagles coach, Manu Garba praised his team for their performance but express concern over the defensive frailty that led to Hoffenheim’s two goals.
“We deserve to win base on our performance but there is still room for improvement going forward we got it right but we made some mistake in defending. Those errors might prove costly in the World cup so hopeful we will get it right before our first game but overall am pleased with the performances of the boys,” Garba said.
The Flying Eagles are preparing for the FIFA World Youth Championship schedule to hold in New Zealand later in the year.
