Mark Calls for Public, Private Partnership to Save Education
The President of the Senate; Senator David Mark has called for public, private sector partnership in the funding and management of the education in Nigeria.

Senator Mark stated this when he commissioned some projects at the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) to the movement of the institution to its permanent site yesterday, noted that government alone cannot shoulder the funding of education in the country.

Senator Mark added, “I urge all stakeholder in our country’s education system including the organised private sector and members 0of the general public to continue rendering necessary support and assistance to the school system at all levels”.

In this digital and globalizing era, Mark stated that Nigeria cannot afford to be left behind, stressing, 2Our Universities and institution of learning should as a matter of urgency and necessity strive to include entrepreneur and vocational skills acquisition and training for self reliance in its curricula.

This he believes will curb the growing trend of over dependence on government as the single source of employment after the graduation of our young citizens who are acclaimed leaders of our tomorrow.

According to Mark, “This task ought to be pursued as a national mandate for the time ahead”.

On his part, the President of the Senate assured that the National Assembly will continue to support all initiatives that are strategically designed to enhance the educational progress of Nigerians.

Also speaking, the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris commended the management of the university for the foresight in relocating to the main campus.

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor Professor Nuhu Yaqub said it was a dream fulfilled that the university has relocated to its permanent site after 21 years of establishment.

The University of Abuja was established in 1988.
