I Need Help With Talking Igbo! by NewYorkBoi(m): 2:23am On Feb 11, 2009 |
One of the girls in my school is new and she just moved here from Nigeria and shes Igbo. I told her my parents were Nigerian and that i was born here, and we started talking and stuff, then we exchanged emails and we chat now. it was all going good until she started talking to me in igbo, but the bad thing is i dont know igbo, but she thinks i do. everytime she startes talking igbo i have to tell her i have to go, or i pretend my computer froze. can someone help me translate a few things or teach me some phrases or something? i plan on learning igbo soon because my parents are starting to complain how me and my siblings dont know our language, help please!!!!!!!! what does this mean? she typed this more then once, is she telling me am i igbo or something? Nne ina su igbo? what would i reply? |

Uh, why would i tell her that when i plan on learning soon?? i told her i can speak it already, so im trying to buy time so when i can do it on my own i wont have to ask around, so telling her i cant speak igbo will be a lose lose situation for me, |

Oh Please, how old are you? If you're above 12, sorry it's going to be hard learning it unless you're some kinda quick learner or genius. Research says that when a child is above 12(i think), it'd be harder learning a new language. It's probably gonna take you about a year. Not like you'll be able to grasp everything even then. Might as well tell her the truth. |

@NewYorkBoi ---- It's a waste of your time and her's trying to pretend that you speak Igbo. Do you understand Igbo though? If you do understand Igbo, then just tell her this. . "ana m anu Igbo mana anaghi m asu ya nke oma". ana m = I do anu = hear Igbo = Igbo mana = but anaghi m = I do not asu ya = speak it nke oma = that well She'll figure out that you can't speak Igbo once she hears your accent with the language. |

OMO IBO: Oh shut up! Not everybody is a fake patriot like you. What did he do wrong by specifying that his parents are Nigerian but that he was born here? If he had said he was American and it later broke out that he was Nigerian wouldn't you be the first to shout fowl and say he has denied his origin? Make you go siddon. @ poster Lying to her wasn't the best way to approach her. Tell her that you don't understand a word and assure her about your intentions to learn. |
