Saved By Grace Through Faith: So Do Works Matter? by agwom(m): 7:06am On May 19, 2015
Apostle Paul, the writer of the book of Romans in the Bible made an interesting statement that we shall further elaborate in this section. In discussing the theme of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus, he writes, "Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law." Romans 3:28. Two verses later, he concludes by saying, "Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law." Romans 3:31.

What did Apostle Paul meant by "we establish the law"? Which law is he referring to? It is obvious that he was referring to the "ten moral laws" or the "Ten Commandments" of God outlined in the bible in Exodus 20:2 - 17. The law is the righteousness of God, the eternal character of God summarized in ten points. These commandments are the "WORKS or DEEDS or ACTS" that we should live out in our lives that proves that we are being saved by grace. For example, "Thou shall not steal" (Exodus 20:15) or "Thou shall not commit adultery" (Exodus 20:14) are good works or good deeds that we show to fellow human beings. We demonstrate faith by good works - a life of action (good deeds). James 2:20,26 explains them nicely: "20. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? 26. For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also."
Some people wrongly think that since we are saved by grace, it doesn't matter what we do. It matters a lot what we do. Our bad works may indicate that we are not yet converted. Bad works may indicate that our hearts are not being renewed and hence we are not being saved. This is dangerous. The Bible says of Jesus mission, "And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins." Matthew 1:21. The reason why Jesus came is NOT to save us in our sins but to save us from our sins. There is a huge difference between being saved in sin and being saved from sin. When Jesus saves us from sin, we do not continue living a life of sin. The whole life is renewed and transformed and we live a new kind of life. "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." (2 Corinthians 5:17). When Jesus has forgiven the woman caught in the act of adultery, He told her, "... go and sin no more" (John 8:11).

To sum up, we can say that, yes we are saved by grace through faith in the atoning sacrifice of Jesus and acceptance of the free gift of salvation and not by our works. But, our works testify that we are being saved from sin that's why we are not living in sin (bad works) anymore. We are saved by grace but we can surely be lost by our bad works because that is a sign of a heart that is not renewed and converted. GOD BLESS.

All correct.
Faith without work is dead. Any one who holds on to questionable ways are just empty vessel using the scripture to the detriment of their soul.

Put your faith to work.

Ephesians: 2. 10. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Excellent piece! Jesus gave the sermon on the mount (part of which was an expatiation on the moral law) and concluded by saying, why call ye me Lord, Lord and do not the things which I say. The position held by some today will demand that Ananias and Sapphira be given an unreserved apology!
2 Timothy 3:5 For [although] they hold a form of piety (true religion), they deny and reject and are strangers to the power of it [their conduct belies the genuineness of their profession]. Avoid [all] such people [turn away from them].
Titus 1:16
16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him,...

Salvation is solely by grace. Good works come subsequently i.e after one is saved. Even if we err or commit grievous sins we cant lose our salvation.

Romans 11:6
And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.
