We are soooooooo not ready for Airplane construction. This is my brother's job and the amount of testing they do for each part will baffle you, plus they don't build every single part at the exact same plant. He hasn't been able to relocate to Nigeria because he can't find a job for his skills (commercial and fighter plane design) and he hates Oil and Gas.

Even my friend, she wants to come back and set up a materials testing lab for any type of materials used in construction of any mechanical and civil device. Who's gonna fund it and Nigerian companies won't like independent testing (it will reveal their shoddiness quickly).

Let's start with car assembly. Then if we can get skilled workforce and constant power, maybe assemble internal parts of one section of the plane.

As in, my brother has even been sent to other countries to establish/oversee technicians and new assembly plants and he says based on what he sees, Nigeria is too far away from this reality.

Which is sad.

One thousand loves for this post cuz it deserves more than likes..

Are you a Mechanical Engineer?

Well, most of them speak as if the fault is from our Engineers, forgetting that the system is porous.

Where is he? Depending on his plant, he probably builds a certain section. My brother was in Ohio (engines) now he's in California testing new engines (I think they run on different fuel).

Let me guess, your bro studied Mechanical Engineering?
He studied aeronautical engineering. He works at the Seattle plant, and he is part of the Dreamliner team.

Coolness. Most Aeronautical Engineers started out as Mech Engr boys. I'll ask him if he's gone to Seattle. I know he's overseen flight tests at San Francisco, LA and Arizona.

I hope you're planning on doing just as well as your bro.

He gave me these badges to put over my baby's crib so she can follow his footsteps or become a test pilot grin

wow!!!!! I'm thrilled thats why europian country and other american will still be having as low as 3percent unemployment rate because pple r allowed to work where they have potentials. our so called nigeria engineers have taken up office jobs in the country whereas they r nt trained to be there buh in places like manufacturings. specialisation had actually led to this. some pple have designed the chairs before installing them by manufacturers. some engeeners have developed those engines before installing by artisan..... even wires, bulbs ar designed by set of pple before installation. see chunk of employments in this industry alone....... nigeria must change its industrial sector

Planes fly due to Newtons 3rd law ,Lift coefficient has to be high for vertical take off (choppers, harrier jets, etc),for fixed wings like the one the op is talking about, its a çombination of thrust and aerodynamics of the wings, rudders etc

@ topic,it is very possible to set up and indeed replicate whatever is produced in the manufacturing facility anywhere in the world here in Nigeria .Process definition and automation into manageable bits helps a lot. Also some expats will initially be engaged to build local capacity.Power ,market dynamics and corruption, will be the major challenges.

nice informative thread @op
trust me the day nigerians start making aircrafts, world population will drastically reduce due to crashing
Re: Photos: Aircraft Construction A-Z. by Nobody: 7:27pm On May 21, 2015
Good. Shugbon kini big deal ?. Nigeria can do it, we have great engineers in this country, but they lack the opportunity to display their skill. Anyway I can help with that, all I need is investment, then we roll.....................steadily.

Otio! Nigeria We don't even have a standard engineering institution, talk more of putting an edifice this automated together. We'll get there but not now, the coupling of that plane was as a result of serious division of labour and specialization from different engineering corporation.

All we need to solve is power. Once that is solved, there would be a great industrial boom

This is one of the best posts I've seen on nairaland. Such an enlightening and inspiring read! Unlike these posts on sex, media, bad news and just plain rubbish, we see a wonderful post!
Industrial/production engineering(mechanical) really rocks.

I beg to ask...why can't we do this in Nigeria? Engineers and Engineering students in this forum, what is stopping us from coming together and finding ways of building these things rather than import old planes that are endangering the precious lives of Nigerians?

What's the big deal? I want to be part of those that will gear this country towards greater advancement in Technology and Development. We all need to be part of this big dream. Nigerians can do better. We can. Let us remove all these division based on religious and ethnic lines that are killing us. We are one and together Nigeria can do much better than this!

Nigel futo boi...tah see ur mouth like IPE. nah ATE dey hear nah we get am.. d closest option self is ARE for the engines.... no dey give urself hope
