I am a "technophile" and I spend most of my time on my computer and online always doing one thing or the other, from watching videos, reading blogs to downloading stuffs.

However, in recent times, it has become really annoying for me when using the web and the reason is this: virtually all websites alive today are publishing ads.

Even though I have nothing against displaying ads on sites and blogs, it should however be done in such a way that it won't affect reader's experience.

Now, just hovering my my mouse or my finger(on my smartphone) over a site, a new tab will pop up redirecting me to an advert.
I am always having to close tabs and clicking a link twice to get anything done, I really wish there was something I could about it, honestly.

Is it that bloggers and site owners are this desperate to get money or they just enjoy infringing user's experience?

What more can I say bro? But I think you're one of those baby net surfers who only use the internet for fun.

No Offense here, I'm not a blogger but I admire what they do inclusive of the ideas they pull just to survive.

I'm a web developer and I've looked into your case and still think you surf the net for fun.
must everyone make money surfing the web? he surfs the web for fun and make money thru something else... so wtf??

Isn't this selfish? You want to read, download or access different stuff on a site/blog for free...But these sites/blogs are possibly businesses... they need to earn...and one of the ways they do so is by publishing ads.

How would you feel if Google starts charging you for every search you make instead of displaying ads.
Think about this.#NoOffense #Peace

I believe he's talking about annoying ads, popups and such, not minimal banner ads like the ones here on Nairaland. Some sites have more ads than content and it puts readers off.

If u are serious about blocking ads and having a good online experience, use Firefox as a browser not chrome.

Exactly!!! This is what I'm talking about. I have nothing against anybody running ads on there sites, but still, user experience should be considered.
@Velocitron, thanks for speaking my mind.

I always had the same problem until I disabled Javascript on my google Chrome and only allowing it for only important pages such as facebook, twitter and other pages. It has saved me a lot of stress. Those ad blockers are not effective.

It's very annoying to me too. That's why I always have adBlock enabled. By the way, you might want to remove the period (.) at the end of the hyperlink in your signature. Tried visiting your blog but I couldn't access it until I removed it.

Most annoying is when you click u on a link and a new window opens up with an ad, hijacking you from what you are doing in the former tab.

I use Disconnect, Ghostery, adblock plus and avast ad blocker running at the background on Firefox. Then went to Firefox hidden menu and stripped out everything making it as bare as possible. Finally told it to clear everything whenever I shut down Firefox. Now, the only ads I see are the ones I want to see.

I absolutely get what you are saying.

It is so effing annoying and dumb.

Normally I visit 2 Nigeria newspaper online, which included The Punch. Then the dumbos running the site decided to infringe on my user experience by installing a new advertising tool that slides down, pushing down the news I am reading out of my screen unexpectedly in the middle of my reading to show me an advert and shatter my silence (if my cursor is over the down-sliding advert).

They were trying to copy the UK Guardian advertising tool, only that, as Nigerian business men, they have less regards for customer service and put it at the top of the webpage and try to force you to see the advert in an intrusive way. The UK Guardian does it in a classy and non-intrusive way.

No need to say I deselected The Punch as one of my 2 destinations for Nigerian news after many years of being one of my destinations. I elected a new destination.

Another one that used to get on my nerves the taboola ads you see on virtually all websites one visits, which displays ads with junk, eyecatching, intellectually-bereft headlines like we have on Seun's NL nowadays:

I used to be extremely irritated with seeing this junk.

Luckily, I found a software that helps remove the junk from all websites I visit.

Now I have absolute intellectual bliss.

OP, install following apps..... The avast anti virus web plugin is optional. But it makes my browsing experience exceptional by blocking cookies and trackers websites love to inject in tabs and cache. Do you know that I don't see one ad on my laptop? Not even one! I even have a friend that wants to design one plugin that will make me not see Nairaland in built ads. Can you beat that?

To install them, (using firefox browser); click on "tools" on the top of your browser and then click "Add ons". Then click on "Extensions". In the top most right corner, you will see a space for "Search all add-ons". Then type the exact names of the add-ons in the picture I attached. When each comes out, click on install. Remember to restart your browser after each installation so that the add-on effect will take place. Make sure that you install all of them ooo! You will see how your browsing experience will improve!

THANK ME LATER!

Bros, i use UCweb browser on my laptop, how do i go about it as your afor-typed descriptions if for Firefox only?
