menxer:the church shouldn't follow technology and civilisation bumper to bumper,we might get sucked in. Homosexuality, gender changes, feminity have made their way in churches. I'm not against +ve change but we should be conscious of the happenings of the present day. The scroll to book transition is different from the book to smartphone one.My opinion though,we all have varied levels of spiritually |

To those claiming its show off, how exactly? If I can drive 1m car, will be unusual to see me with a tablet costing just about 20k? |

nedu2000:In response to your 6 points 1. Holding a bible in public is not your 'identity card' as a christian. Your identity card as a christian is your 'christ like' life. 2. Your 2nd point has no bearing to the topic. Would you rather be uncivilised? Your use of nairaland is a testament to beauty of technology. 3. Why are you sounding like someone that would use grinding stone instead of a blender. 4. There are features on each pad or tablet that can prevent such distracting features. 5. If using a tab/ I pad is a show off, then maybe you're broke. 6. There is a port for charging on every tab/i pad and it comes with a charger. My point, don't get stuck in your archaic reasoning. |

Vado:Clap for yourself! Now go back to the OP, then read my first post on this thread, understand properly my angle before you start ranting. Bible app is a feasible alternative to paper bible. If there's a better alternative at little cost why not use it. If people feel ok using bible app electronically why discourage them and force them to use paper bible instead. All you have mentioned above still buttresses my point. The Academic institution you mentioned make use of paper sparingly these days and is embracing online technology to teach people. Thesis and Projects are published online. Book libraries are now a thing of the past as information from Libraries is readily made available to anyone with a simple access to internet. All this is done with minimum cost and damage to TREES. Paper currency! I laugh in greek! Do you know Governments spend money in printing paper money? Ever heard of cashless policy? At what cost will it take me to transfer 350k to you right from this mobile phone than for the government to print paper currency of 350k that you have in your house, then you take bus to deliver same amount to me in my present location at the risk of being robbed. I could go on and on... 1 Like |

hassymo5: You can't be all these or achieve all these overnight without first carrying your bible and showing the world who you are. I can't get born again today and start hiding my bible and be able to be all that you claimed. |

Such Ignorance, I think what you need to be identified as a TRUE Christian is to carry Scroll since that's where the 66 books which we call Bible today was translated. Hahahaha That's how a certain church some years ago called the Television the Devils box... IGNORANCE.. Carrying the 66 book Bible is now the way of identification. Go carry Scroll.... Hahahaha 1 Like |

nedu2000: If u re ashamed to hold ur bible, den, u don't believe in it and in essence, u re not a christian. So, why holding wat u don't believe in? In the same way, it will be hypocritical to hold the bible and show the world that u er a christian while in the true sense, u re not. |
Re: Why Smartphones Are No Substitute For Bibles by doofanc: 10:27am On Jun 14, 2015 |
Setaje: Sister, a church is not the building but the collection of saints. Once two or three are gathered in His name, He is there. So what you cant use in the Church building shouldn't be used anywhere else. If you really want to go 'traditional' - whatever that means - then the scrolls, or engraved tablets would be more appropriate. 1 Like |

kekakuz: First of all why is the devil coming to attack you? Is it only "in the night" that you know devil attack ppl? Who told you that you point the Bible at the devil when he attacks you? I perceive you've been watching plenty Nigerian films and hearing plenty idle gossips. If for any reason you can point a bible at Satan I don't see why a phone with with a bible can't be pointed at Satan. In fact I think phone is better because you can quickly check the Internet to know why the "pointing assault" isn't working.... Lol. It's different strokes for different folks... In the next few years this will no longer be a thing to debate on. Every advancement in technology is good, but how we handle it is what matters, just like money. What's as good as having more than 1 translation/rendering in your phone screen simultaneously? My manner wasn't nice, I know. Apologies 1 Like |

evegran:The guy prolly looked at your display picture before making that comment. Yours and that of the OP is as foolish as they come. Very foolish and myopic way of thinking. How can the paper bible suddenly take you closer to God? Really? Who is your Pastor? |

chilet4cici: Here is one of the reasons I hate having a comment of mine being on the first/second page of a possible front page topic, you will get nicompoops like the petit batard above with no brain to carry on an intelligible discourse quoting you. |

nedu2000:If you are rendering an opinion, you should type as such. However, you typed as one making conclusion. The word of God is the word of God be it in hard copy bible or in smartphone. The smartphone is handy since you do not carry your hardcopy bible around. There are certain situations you will want to read the word of God and you have that of smartphone accessible. |

hassymo5:FYI the word himself was with them (Jesus christ) 'the word became flesh' remember? Jesus Christ was their Bible. My question is, how can one be spirit filled without the Bible? I mean, if you're not frequently With the word, how can you study? Then become spirit filled? Though I know there are people that only hold the Bible for show-off. My point is, there's no spirit filled Christian who isn't seen frequently with the Bible. The word 'frequently' as used in the context also connotes 'study'. |

Setaje:very true. I was so happy when the soldiers in my church security check point sent a student back, when confronted with the question Where are going? Church, he replied And your Bible? Asked the soldier Attempting to bring out his phone, from his pocket, Go back home and get your Bible. He soldier said. I was later sad, knowing he might not come back. 1 Like |

doofanc: I would gladly use a scroll if I see one. How do u justify using a bible app on a phone or gadget that has porn on it. It makes no sense. Many youths have porn and do all sorts wiv their phones. To me it's like putting the bible and porn on the same shelf. Even we as humans, when we read the bible, we are meant to be purified in truth and in spirit. Not to talk of when reading that same bible through a gadget that has uncountable atrocities. |

hassymo5:really?? Did you understand my post at all? How can one be spirit filled without frequenting the Bible? It was after 'the word' (Jesus Christ) left before the Holy Spirit came on the disciples. Get me right, the Holy Spirit came in conjunction with the word. The Holy Spirit came down on them because They were always with the word (Jesus Christ) They received the word (Jesus christ) They lived based on the precepts of the word. The word is now our Bible How can your alleged 'spirit filled' people actually be spirit filled without frequenting the word. And in turn live by it. Is it possible to live by Biblical standards, without knowing what the Bible is saying? |
