Here are key things you must do during your NYSC to have a better life after NYSC.

1. Plan: the first thing you should do after securing your PPA is to plan. Failure to plan is planning to fail. With planning, you define how your service year would look like and what you seek to achieve during your service year. Remember, when you fail to plan, you indirectly plan to fail. The best time to plan is now!

2. Set your Priorities: its so apauling that corpers this days don’t have prirorities, they are driven by the wind, doing what others are doing with no life of their own. Hey, stop for a moment and take charge of your life. set your priorities right, what you will do and what should be pending, where you should go and where you sholdnt.

3. Add Value to yourself: don’t think NYSC is an excape route, it isn’t, its an opportunity to develop yourself, learn a skill, learn a trade, take a PGD course, take an online course or stffs that would add value to you. Don’t finish NYSC with just a certificate, finish NYSC with a value added to yourself.

4. Do a Community or Personal Project: you want to get connected, build your network and lay a solid foundation that will speak up for you? Then do a project that will impact on the community, something of value. As you do such project, you tend to meet people, get connected and who knows, you have your professional network.

5. Save your money: some persons actually get stranded after NYSC because they see service year as a time for fun, parties, hosting friends, eating Indomie and sphaggetis and buying expensive phones. Im not saying that is bad, all im saying is that you need to save. There is a life after NYSC that means you have to travel for interviews, be at a place at a time, you cannot be depending on your parents at this stage. Its time to save! Save up something every month and at the end of your service, you have something to leverage on.

6. Do something extra: some persons serve in a PPA where there are no jobs and they end up being dormant. Why not do something extra to earn something extra. Find another organisation and get committed, that way you earn money and save your allawee.

7. Get more professional: yea! Before you finish your NYSC, you should have a CV and should understand the rudiment of cover letter writing. You should understand the employment environment and be prepared to fit in accordingly. After NYSC, work follows hence you must start living a corporate kind of life from your NYSC days. Its simple, if you want to be it, then live it.

I hope you’ve learnt something from this. You may consider taking an online professional training course to boost your cv on www.skynigeria.com and you may also get business plans if you have a business idea or proposal for a project you want to execute in your PPA.
