If you've been around internet marketing for any length of time, the importance of niche selection has probably been pounded into your brain.
Finding out if there is any interest in your selected niche is extremely important. You don't want to spend your time and money advertising a niche that no one is interested in. That would just be counterproductive .

There are many different ways to select your niche, but there are a few different methods for niche selection that most people tend to turn to.
The first method would be to think about what your own interests are. What do you enjoy doing? What are you good at? Do you have any skills that other people may want to learn?

1. Evergreen Niches
Another thing you can consider when searching for a niche to begin marketing to would be to think about evergreen niches. If you haven't already become familiar with that term, an evergreen niche is a niche that will stand the test of time, meaning something that people will always have a need for. A popular phrase when it comes to evergreen niches is “health, wealth and relationships.” These three niches are important to people today and will be important to people 50 years from now.

People who are successful today in evergreen niches will continue to be successful in that niche for years to come without having to change much of their marketing information.

2. Trending Topics
Another way to find niches to start marketing to are by browsing through trending topics. Trending topics show you that people are talking about and are interested in that specific topic right now and are ready to learn more. As marketers, we can benefit from their immediate interest.

One thing to consider when choosing to market to people interested in trending topics is the fact that most of these niches are short lived, meaning things that are trending today may not be something people are talking about tomorrow.

How to Find Out What's Trending

Probably the best way to find out what's trending online at any given time is Google Trends. Literally any topic you can think of, you can search for it on Google Trends and you will see what subjects within your niche are the most talked about online.

Another great way to find out what's trending is a website called What the Trend. WTT shows you what is currently trending on Twitter, and you can even narrow it down by country depending on where you live. You can visit What the Trend here : http://whatthetrend.com.

Facebook recently announced that they have begun experimenting with placing a trending topics widget inside the right column of your Facebook newsfeed, similar to Twitter's Trending Topics. This option is not currently available to all Facebook users, as it is still being refined. But when this option becomes available to all Facebook users, this will be a great way for you to quickly find topics to begin marketing to.
