An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun on Wednesday granted a bail of N200,000 to two men — Semiu Obabiyi and Dani Shuaib — who allegedly stole a motorcycle valued at N80,000. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Funke Odubanjo, who gave the ruling, also granted the duo two sureties each in the like sum.

She said the sureties should be workers and residents in the area. In addition, Odubanjo said the sureties should provide evidence of one year tax payment and submit four passport photographs to the court as part of the bail conditions.

Obabiyi, 30, and Shuaib 25, whose addresses were not given, are being tried for conspiracy and stealing. Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Itaita Ebibomino, told the court that the accused committed the offences on May 30 at about 9.30 p.m. at Ayetoro, Itele-Awori in Ota.

According to him, the accused stole the motorcycle valued at N80, 000 belonging to the complainant, Isiaka Hammed.

“The accused were caught with two motorcycles including the complainant’s and they could not give a reasonable explanation about how they came about them.’’

The offences contravened Sections 390 (9), 427 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Revised Law of Ogun State, 2006. Further hearing in the case has been adjourned to July 2.
