10. MV Agusta F4 RR (186 mph+)
With a 998cc four-stroke, 16-valve engine capable of 201 horsepower, and 82 pound-foot of torque, it’s easy to see why riders chuckle at the idea the Agusta F4 RR can only reach a top speed of 185 mph. The F4 RR has a dry weight of 419 pounds and has been clocked at speeds approaching 200 mph in different circumstances, so there’s no question it belongs on any list of fastest road bikes. Riders have also reported going 0-60 in 3 seconds on the F4 RR.

9. Honda CBR 1000 RR (186 mph+)
Always in the running for fastest road bike, the Honda CBR 1000 RR played nice with a top speed quoted at 185, but some riders have gotten far more out of this beast. The 2014 model features a 999cc liquid-cooled engine capable of 170 hp and a curb weight of 441 pounds.

Able to flash from 0-60 in 3 seconds, this bike can be seen on YouTube cracking the 185 mph mark on a regular highway run with a bold rider at the helm. The CBR 1000 RR easily dusts everything in its wake.

8. Aprilia RSV4 (186 mph+)
There’s no reason to question the capabilities of a five-time World Superbike Championship winner. The Aprilia RSV4 received an upgrade in horsepower and torque in its most recent mode, setting the power at 184 hp and 86 pound-foot of torque. With a dry weight of 409 pounds, there’s a lethal amount of power on tap.

Reviewers who blasted down the track in a factory RSV4 reported no trouble hitting the mark of 186 mph (and likely surpassed it.)

7. Kawasaki Ninja ZX 14R (186 mph)
Once bikes like the Kawasaki Ninja ZX 14R enter the picture, it’s really a matter of which rider can outrace the opposition. Packing a 1441cc engine capable of 200 hp, this Ninja stood alone in its class before the Lightning LS-218 joined the 200 horses club. This massive engine makes it one of the heaviest bikes on the list at 584 pounds, but with 115 pound-foot of torque it retains an impressive ratio of weight to torque.

Sure, it’s one of the bikes that swears by its 186 mph speed limit, yet in 2013 Ralph Nicholls set the Australian land speed record on a Ninja ZX 14R with just tire and gearing changes. Nicholls rode the Ninja above 208 mph.

6. YZF R1 (190 mph)
The Yamaha YZF R1 is another bike that’s capable of besting the competition in the hands of the right rider. Weighing in at 454 pounds wet, the 998cc inline four-cylinder engine is capable of 182 hp on 85 pounds-foot of torque. Capable of going 0-60 in 3 seconds, it won’t slow down until it hits 190 mph with the right rider on board.

5. BMW S 1000 RR (190-203 mph)
At 398 pounds including race ABS, this BMW superbike is capable of extraordinary acceleration feeding off its 998cc engine. Maximum output is 193 hp and 93 pounds-foot of torque, affording the S 1000 RR a controlled top speed of 190 mph.

Yet that’s what the bike maker says, washing its hands of one of the fastest road bikes in the world. A “lightly modified” version of the bike hit 203 mph recently in Maxton, North Carolina, which was the second time the S 1000 RR broke the 200 mph mark.

4. Suzuki Hayabusa (194 mph)
This elite class of bikes also includes the Suzuki Hayabusa, which does power and speed at a very economical price ($14,599.) Packing a 1340cc inline four capable of 197 hp, the Hayabusa has more heft to carry with 586 pounds of curb weight. That dilemma is fully covered by the max 114 pounds-foot of torque available to riders. Since its turn-of-the-century models hit 194 mph, production bikes have struggled to keep up with this falcon’s speed.

3. Ducati Panigale 1199 R (200 mph)
Ducati is the perfect example of a bike maker that simultaneously played by the rules and tore up the agreement of where to put the speed cap. With the Panigale 1199 R, Ducati delivered a superbike with a ferocious 1199cc engine capable of 195 hp and 98 pounds-foot of torque.

The pricey beast ($30,995) has the traditional top speed of 186 after cranking 0-60 in 2.8 seconds — or so Ducati says. Upgrade to a “track-only” exhaust and the horsepower power quotient gets especially violent for a bike (202 hp.) In this configuration, Ducati allows that the Panigale can hit 200 mph. Repeat: track-only, folks.

2. Lightning LS-218 (218 mph)
There were plenty of headlines when Lightning debuted its electric production bike that had already hit 218 mph at Bonneville in 2011. To remind everyone of the achievement, it bears the name LS-218. Both the fastest electric bike and the fastest road bike in steady production, the Lightning LS-218 has everything a speed lover could want. Featuring 200 hp and 168 pounds-foot of torque, it can go 0-60 in about 2 seconds.

1. MTT Turbine Y2K Superbike (227 mph)
It’s clear why Marine Turbine photographs and tests its bikes on airplane runways. For starters, these motorcycles run on jet turbine engines. Factor in that they have been clocked at 402 km/h (227 mph) and you see why the airport is the ideal location for the superbike capable of 320 hp on 425 pounds-foot of torque.

The MTT Turbine Streetfighter, the company’s latest model, has the same Rolls Royce-Allison 320-hp gas turbine engine coming standard but with the option to upgrade to a monster engine capable of 420 hp and 500 pounds-foot of torque. Forget about 0-60 quotes. MTT says this bike can go 0-200 in 5.4 seconds. If the base model can go at least 227 mph, there’s no telling what the 420-hp Streetfighter can do. It’s the fastest road bike in the world.
