twoondei: It is this state of mind of yours causing all the wahala. Anything "tradition" has been under attack since colonial time. They used racist sentiments to call our native religion "Juju", while respecting Hinduism that has thousands of gods (more than all of Africa sef) as part of their belief. Some curches have even gone about destroying shrines and unnecessarily challenging people doing their own tradition. Even Jesus doesn't encourage that. Even if you think you now sabi Jesus pass the Jews (his ethnicity & birth religion), the Oyinbo (Christians by 1st to 4th century), Ethiopians (Christians history since about 68AD), must we provoke those who keep their native worship when we live in secular State? If Jesus was said to have been conceived by a "virgin" in your village 2,000 years ago, you think any oyinbo, Arab, or Asian will buy that story from you? Even you yourself will be first to rubbish the story to outsiders. It's not just religion. Oyinbo have our blokos in their hands because they have managed to make us believe everything they want us to believe. I began preaching all over town as a teenager back then. Then Pastors didn't have money, no fine clothes or cars so few (but more genuine) did it. It's mostly business now. But if they did anything against the law with evidence, then let justice take it's course. |
