l would not know though it is native to South America (Chile and Peru) but is now picking up in Kenya and being told Nigeria weather is also good for it cultivation as it takes about 5 months from planting to harvest. l have a relative who l want to have it sent to in Lagos.

Pepino melon seedlings ready for transplant.

Mr pavore9 you once talked about beetroot.... Is there ready market for it...I want to start some research on how best to plant.

Beetroot is rich in iron content and helps to improve blood count and blood flow. I recall when a doctor recommended it for a relative who was going through a Haemorrhage-related illness, getting it was an issue and when we found it at the Mile 12 market, it wasn't price-friendly!

I didn't get to send the melon down because my schedule tend to not always have me around when someone is flying down to Nigeria. The seedlings are readily available though the nursery that stock them is about an hour and thirty minutes drive away from Nairobi.

I wld love to hv d pepino melon seed/seedling in Nigeria. I wld appreciate if u cld facilitate this. Am also interested in d other exotic vegies like beetroot, squash etc.

Funny thing is Shoprite at the Ikeja mall now sells seeds from SA. I got cucumber, coriander, beetroot and squash seeds last week. I have planted the beetroot but here is a picture of the squash and coriander seeds. Also a picture of the shelf at the mall.

That is good, Many Supermarkets here in Nairobi have stands for various seeds. How much do each pack cost?

Squash is a money spinner as a seed can give one between 4-8 gourds at harvest. I have been experimenting to check on how long it can last post harvest, I got one squash on the 23rd of December 2015 and have kept it within room temperature since then and it is still looking fresh.

Each pack sells for N330 (for any of the plants and fruits). Really cheap I think.
