The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has registered the Democratic Peoples Congress (DPC) as a new political party.
The registration of the new party brings the total number of registered political parties in the country to 29.

INEC, in a letter addressed to the national chairman of the new party, which was signed by the commission’s secretary, Augusta Ogakwu, said the decision was reached at INEC’s meeting held on June 19, 2015.
A copy of the letter dated July 8, 2015 made available to Daily Trust by the party’s national chairman, Olusegun Peters, also relayed the commission’s assurance to the party. “The party constitution, manifesto, logo/flag and the list of the national executive officers were also approved.
“The certificate of the registration will be issued in due course,” the registration letter stated.
The party headquarters, according to the INEC letter, is located along Obafemi Awolowo Way, Abuja.
This is the first political party INEC will register after the 2015 general elections.
It is also the first political party to be registered after the Young Democratic Party (YDP) which registration almost disrupted the commission’s preparation for the general elections early this year.
