An Enugu North Magistrate Court has remanded Ogbonna Okey and Rev. Fr. Isaac Jinga in prison custody till Tuesday, 21 st July for felony and conspiracy against two students under their care with intent to maim.

Okey is the Chief Security Officer (CSO), while Rev. Fr. Jinga is the Dean, Students Affairs of Madonna University, Enugu Campus.

The two students, Lord Aondaofa and Ifeanyi Stanley okoye both of final year students of civil engineering was allegedly beating to state of coma by the CSO and Dean students affairs on allegations that they were practicing cultism and used same to attack the CSO, Okey while he was returning to the campus from Enugu metropolis.

They where arraigned on Tuesday 14 th July, 2015 by Enugu police command on two counts charge with shirt No. MEN/87c/2015, which reads:

“That you, Rev. Fr. Isaac Jinga ‘M’, Ogbonna Okey ‘M’ and others at large on 3/2/2015 at Madonna University, Akpugo Campus, Nkanu West Magisterial District holden at Enugu did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit: causing grievous bodily harm and thereby committed an offence, punishable under Sec. 495(a) of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II, Laws of Enugu state, 2004.

“That you, Rev. Fr. Isaac Jinga, Ogbonna Okey and others at large on the same date and place, in the aforementioned magisterial district, did with intent to maim, disfigure or disable cause grievous bodily harm to one Stanley Ifeanyi Okoye, by hitting him with iron rod at his neck and all over the body which caused injury him in spinal cord and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 288(a) of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II of the laws of Enugu state 2004”

When the charges were read to the understanding of the accused persons, they pleaded not guilty.

Presiding Magistrate Nkemdilim Anibueze asked the counsel to the accused persons and the prosecutor to address the court on whether the court 1 st is competent and 2 nd whether the court has powers to look at the charge.

After both the accused counsel and the prosecutor addressed the court on that, Magistrate Anibueze ordered that the accused persons be remanded in prison custody and adjourned till 21 st July, 2015 for ruling on whether it has the power to look into the charge.

However, the two students has dragged the university and its authorities, the chancellor, the CSO and Rev. Fr. Jinga before the federal high court sitting in Enugu rights violation.

In suit no: FHC/EN/CS/50/2015, the students are asking for N1 billion compensation for their rights that were violated by its staff for committing no offence known to law.

In an affidavit in support of the motion, depose to by Samuel Okoye father of Stanley Ifeanyi and 1st applicant, he told the court that on 4th February he received a distress call from his wife, Mrs Bibian Okoye who was at their house in Abuja that somebody called her with a hidden phone number that their son, Ifeanyi is dying in the school at Madonna.

That the caller also informed her that is not sure whether their son was still alive. On that, he boarded next available flight from Lagos to Enugu the following morning since he is in Lagos for his business.

According to him, on getting to the campus gate, “I was refused entrance into the campus by the security men despite introducing myself as a parent of a dying student.”

Mr Okoye stated that when negotiations and entreaties at security post of the campus failed he decided to lodge a complaint at the Agbani police station.

At the station, he was referred to division crime officer (DCO), one Mr Elias who on introducing himself and lodging his complaint told him how on 3rd February, at about 1:45 am two of the Respondents; Fr. Isaac and Mr Okey brought two students of Madonna university, Akpugo Campus in cold blood and half dead to the station with the intention of handing them over To his division for arrest.

The two students were in pools of blood as a result of serious bruises, batters, beating and torture and they had series of deep cut injuries all over their bodies.

According to Mr Okoye, his son and his friend he was informed by police were kept separately in the trunks of a Toyota 4 runner Jeep and a Lexus Jeep driven by Fr. Jinga and Mr Okey and when he the DCO asked the Mr Okey the CSO why the two students were in bad shape, he was told that both of them attacked him the previous day on his way from Enugu.

Said Okoye, the DCO told him that after he had took the particulars of Fr. Jinga and Okey, he directed them to call their parents and quickly take them to hospital for urgent medical attention then, they should return to furnish the police with reports but they never came back.

Mr. Okoye told the court that when the police lead him to the school and saw his son, he was traumatized by his condition, his body was inflicted with deep cut injuries confirming what he was told by DCO.

He said that when he regained his consciousness, he begged to take his son and his friend out for medical treatment but the respondents refused rather they threatened and did confine him in their custody for over 45 minutes before they pushed him out of the campus gate with his photographic camera smashed for taken pictures of the state of his son.

He further told the court that his son and his friend spent over 7weeks at Madonna teaching hospital, Elele, River state where they under gone several surgical operation and later they were transferred to another hospital and now National hospital Abuja for treatment.

He also told the court presided by Honourable Justice, Dorothy V. Agishi that the university has concluded plans to expel the applicants who was waiting to take their degree examination before the unholy incidents happened.

The court has fixed Oct hearing.

Whoever did this is heartless, and to imagine that a priest is involved makes it all absurd. They must pay for damages and justice must prevail.
