Former Super Eagles coach and ex-skipper of Nigeria national team who was sacked recently by Nigeria Football Federation and replaced with Sunday Oliseh made a great impact on the team despite being sacked.Stephen Keshi has a number of important achievements with the team.

1. He won AFCON 2013 with the national team: Stephen qualified the Super Eagles of Nigeria for 2013 Africa Cup of Nations tournament,2-yrs after he was appointed by NFF.Although his team did not start very well in the tournament, his commitment and tactical prowess transformed the team.In the semi-finals against Ivory Coast, his side was already tipped to be heading home but the team went ahead to reach the final and defeated Burkina Faso 1–0 in the final. His success was marred after he tendered a resignation letter which he reversed a day after.

2.He qualified Nigeria for 2013 Confederation Cup in Brazil:Nigeria has not played in Confederation Cup for many years until coach Stephen Keshi took over and qualified the team to the tournament. However,Super Eagles campaign at the tournament was disappointing as Nigeria lost 1-2 to Uruguay and 0-3 to Spain but defeated lowly rated site Tahiti 6–1.As a result,Super Eagles did not progress beyond the first stage of the tournament.

3.He qualified Nigeria for Brazil 2014 World Cup: He became the first African coach to successfully qualify two African countries(Nigeria and Togo) for World Cup.Nigeria qualified after winning Ethiopia 4-1.Nigeria played in the same group with Iran,Argentina and Bosnia and Herzegovina.Nigeria progressed to the knockout stage of the tournament but lost to France.

4. He discovered many players: Stephen Keshi brought in some home based players into the team.He brought in Sunday Mbah and Goddfrey Oboboana who did pretty well in AFCON tournament. The experience and performance of these players made them secure a deal abroad. He also brought Kenneth Omeruo to the team.Since his inclusion into the team,Kenneth Omeruo has been the pillar of Super Eagles defence.
