Sachet water popularly referred to as 'pure water' in Nigeria might seem to be the cheapest and safest alternative to consuming borehole water in times of emergency but the following will discourage you from buying it.

1. We are not really sure of the expiry date of the sachet water we are buying because it was not stated on it. You only see "two months after production" with no production date. Hence consumption is not safe.

2. The packaging of this sachet water is made of non-biodegradable synthetic polyethylene (polythene), which does not decay, decompose or corrode, and which when burnt, produces oxides of carbon, nitrogen and sulphur which can harm man and the environment.

3. It causes land and air pollution .

By my own opinion, it is the leading cause of typhoid fever. During the sealing process, the machine produced fumes(smoke) which undoubtedly have its way back into the satchet. The smoke interaction with the water in a sealed bag possibly breeds some forms of pathogens.

We should explore other forms of containerization.

Truthfully, it causes more harm than good. But the level of poverty and ignorance in Nigeria is too much to stop it. But just like the stopping of commercial motorcycles in some cities and yet people are surviving, this too can be stopped if we try and we will survive. I no go lie, I dey drink am well well.
