Rate my poem please. I wrote it since last year
This is my country
A beast of rivalry
My country at fifty-four
Yet nothing to be grateful for

Now where do I start from
So confused like a girl on her prom
Is it the era of corruption
Or the pains of insubordination

My people labor like slaves
With nothing left to save
Working all round the clock
With hearts as heavy as rock

Lives are lost like nothings
Souls mourning all mornings
The menace of boko haram
But no cause for alarm

I believe in a better Nigeria
No need to flee to Algeria
This is my own letter to our heroes past
I believe in a Nigeria with blessings so vast

Did you deliberately decide to not punctuate? I also think you were so inclined to arrive at a couplet rhyme scheme that you were willing to sacrifice depth and substance. I like your poem, but I only gave my opinion.

I'm actually not an avid follower of dos and don't' in poetry. In fact I don't know them. Though I'm beginning to develop interest. I believe I will grow with time. Thank you very much though, 6 is a pass mark.

A struggling, somewhat naive yet permissible poem.
