Great house!

Question for the house:

Who knows any (side)effect(s) of a reduced inlet valve diameter of an internal combustion engine in cars?

Though this might sound too technical, all I want to know is just a mere thought of what any person thinks would happen if such a valve is produced.

A knowledge of mechanical and chemical engineering would help.

I'm a research student. thanks.

Well as a mech engr,...I tink der would be less air taken in for combustion,de inlet and outlet valves are normally of equal diameter in a 4 stroke engine. More air taken in means more exhaust air taken out, enough air produces better combustion and better power for de engine. A reduce in diameter of the inlet valve will slow the piston from taken in air,....so I think the engine won't start or it might start but nt be able to fire properly,u knw the movement of the piston is in micro seconds, its fast and a small valve would slow it for sure.....jst tink of u sucking air from a STRAW and sucking air jst wit ur MOUTH open. I guess u'l get de difference.
