Barely 24 hours after the appointment of Group Managing Director for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Emmanuel Kachikwu, the Federal Government, on Wednesday, approved the retirement of the corporation’s eight Group Executive Directors with immediate effect.
They are: Bernard Otti, GED Finance and Accounts; Dr. Timothy Okon, Acting GED Exploration and Production, who also doubled as Coordinator Corporate Planning & Strategy; Engr. Adebayo Ibirogba, Engineering and Technology; Dr. David Ige, Gas and Power; Ms. Aisha Abdurrahman, Commercial and Investment; Dr. Dan Efebo, Corporate Services; Engr. Ian Udoh, Refining & Petrochemicals; and Dr. Attahiru Yusuf, Business Development.
A statement by the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division of the NNPC, Ohi Alegbe, noted that the new Group Managing Director of NNPC, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, who personally conveyed the decision to the retiring Group Executive Directors, expressed gratitude to them for their services and wished them success in their future endeavours.
Otti, Yusuf and Ige were appointed in June 2012, while Udoh, Efebo, Ibirogba and Abduraman came on board in March last year.
Joseph Dahwa who was replaced on Tuesday by Kachikwu, was GED Exploration and Production before his elevation.
Bernard Otti, who hails from Anambra State, was the first to occupy the position of the Deputy Group Managing Director (DGMD) of the corporation, when former president, Goodluck Jonathan, created the office in 2014.
Otti, an experienced economist, was GED (Finance and Accounts, besides working at NAL Merchant Bank.
Okon was appointed Group General Manager, corporate Strategy at the NNPC in June 2007 and led the commercial group in NNPC to evaluate all significant and major projects in the JVs and PSCs. He provided corporate, commercial and investment advice to the GMD and developed long range strategic options for the oil and gas industry.
Udoh was Managing Director of the Port Harcourt Refining and Petrochemicals Company Ltd. (PHRC) since November 2012 and previously held the position of Executive Director, Operations at both the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemicals Company Limited (KRPC) and the PHRC.
Before his appointment, Ige was the Group General Manager/Senior Technical Adviser to the Group Managing Director of NNPC. He was also an Adviser to the Minister for Petroleum Resources and was Acting Managing Director of the Gas Aggregation Company of Nigeria (GACN). He was said to have played a focal role in the development and implementation of the Nigerian Gas Master Plan (NGMP), which aims to lay a solid framework for gas infrastructure expansion in Nigeria.
Before joining the NNPC in 2005, he worked with Shell International Petroleum Company in the Netherlands and United Kingdom as a reservoir Engineer. Ige was the first Nigerian in the history of the Shell Group employed for international operations as a Petroleum Engineer.
In 2000, he joined the Strategy Practice of Accenture’s Global Energy practice in London, providing consultancy services in strategy development etc. for major oil and gas companies in the US, UK, Norway and Angola.
