The ambition of former Abia State governor, Dr.Orji Uzor Kalu to become the next president of world soccer governing body (FIFA). Continues to gain momentum with support coming his way from various sectors of the Nigerian soccer fraternity.

So soon after Nigerian sports big guns like former FIFA executive committee member, Dr.Amos Adamu and ex-England international, John Fashanu threw their weight behind Kalu, the ex-governor has now won a nod from two members of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) executive committee.

The latest support for Kalu’s FIFA bid comes from Nigeria Nationwide League (NNWL) chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Mu’azu Kawu and fellow-NFF board member, Alhaji Yusuf Fresh, who stated separately that they back his ambition but urged him to make a formal request to the soccer governing body for endorsement.

According to Fresh, a member of the NFF technical committee, Kalu has every right to aspire to the topmost position in world football with his achievement with Enyimba International of Aba while he held sway as Abia State governor.

He declared: “I am enthusiastic and happy that Nigerians are starting to show interest in the top football position in the world. His Excellency, Dr Orji Kalu has the right to contest for the FIFA job, but he must get the endorsement of the NFF.

“He cannot aspire to contest without the backing of the NFF and if he seeks our support, we shall surely give it to him. He has countless achievements to show from his performance as two-time Governor of Abia State.”

“He made Enyimba Football Club of Aba what they are today, because it was through his effort that Nigeria broke the CAF Champions League jinx. He won the competition twice as well as the CAF Super Cup.”

On his part, Kawu said Kalu’s aspiration is not abnormal but also advised the sports-loving publisher, businessman, motivator and politician to go through the proper channel to actualize his dream.

“I like the doggedness of Dr.Orji Uzor Kalu in aspiring to be the FIFA president. Of course, he’s qualified and has the record to back it up. But he has to go through the proper channel, that is seeking the clearance of the Nigeria Football Federation,” Kawu said.
