It was announced yesterday 10th August, 2015 by West African Examinations Council (WAEC) official that out of 1,593,442 candidates that sat for May/June 2015 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), 616,370 (38.68%) obtained credit in five subjects and above, including English Language and Mathematics.

This result indicates that the reaming 977,072 (61.32%) candidates did not obtained complete five credit in their subjects.

According to Mr. Charles Eguridu, the Head of the Nigeria National Office (HNO), who disclosed this in Lagos yesterday, said candidates could begin to check their results from Tuesday, the body is still owed by 13 out of the 19 states earlier announced

Mr. Charles also said that the result indicated a slight improvement in candidates’ performance, as it recorded 31.28 per cent in May/June last year and 38.30 per cent in 2013.

He further breakdown the result as follow

1,498,069 (94.01%) candidates, have their results fully released,

95,373 (5.99%) candidates, have a few of their subjects still being processed due to some errors mainly traceable to the candidates and schools in the course of registration or writing the examination.

758,849 (47.62 %) candidates obtained six credits and above.

949,862 (59.61%) candidates obtained five credits and above.

114,988 (69.97%) candidates obtained credits and above in four subjects.

1,295,915 (78.81%) candidates obtained credit and above in three subjects.

1,376,743 (86.40%) candidates obtained credit and above in two subjects.

118,101 (7.41%) candidates’ results are being withheld in connection with various cases of examination malpractice.

Not bad? Let's be truthful, though it is an improvement it is not encouraging at all. How can we say this when less than half of the students passed at credit level? Haba nah let's stop celebrating mediocrity.

Frankly speaking, the result is not good at all. Secondary School Students need more orientation about Education (How to Read and Pass).
