Smiles...The first impression you make on a potential employer is incredibly meaningful and important. When you first meet, employers will form an assessment based on what you're wearing and how you carry yourself. Regardless of the work environment, it's important to dress professionally for a job interview. This will help guarantee that you make a great first impression.

In general, the candidate dressed in a suit and tie is going to make a much better impression than the candidate dressed in scruffy jeans and a t-shirt.

Smiles... So its up to u buddy...smiles...
Smiles..thanks dude.

You can be asked anything in chemical engineering. It's a technical interview. Also, they may ask you about things on your cv especially if you've had experience that is somewhat relevant. They say the Americans are nicer and the Indians are more brutal in their interviews but I don't know if that holds water in every case. They may also ask common sense questions about teamwork, management, etc
Just be confident and speak well.

Goodluck.

Congrats to all who made it! Please any advice for chemical engineers going for the interview?

Just some tips for those invited for the interview:

1. Pick up your CV, look at it in detail and be sure you can defend everything on it. This is very very very important. The interview will be built around your CV, or at least that is where the questions will start from.

2. Be careful how you answer the questions cos your answers could trigger follow-up questions. This can be to your advantage if you can intelligently direct the course of the interview to your strongest areas.

3. Make sure you know the basics of your discipline. For those in Mechanical, to mention a few area, read briefly (not in-dept) about Pumps (Positive displacement and centrifugal, cavitation, NPSHA, NPSHR (Know the difference between NPSHA and NPSHR), Bernoulli principles), IC engines..etc.

4. You could be asked situational-based questions. The aim of this is to know how you'd react under certain situations. Example: As the head of maintenance team, tell us what you would do when a vital Pump fails??...stuffs like that..
Although there may be more than one correct answer, be sure to keep in mind: Teamwork, Safety and appropriate channel of reporting. For those with experience you can site real situations where you encountered similar challenges and how you resolved it.

5. Prepare for the normal HR questions. Although it is called a technical interview, a HR rep will be in every panel and he/she will ask some questions from the human resource perspective. Again most HR questions can have more than one correct answer, however, your answer should portray you as a person who has the virtues they want. Virtues like: Leadership, Teamwork, discipline, vision, conflict resolution, etc. Questions like: what would you do when you have a great idea that could move the company forward but your boss refutes it? How would you correct your boss when he is wrong and doesn't want your opinion?? At what point should you stop being loyal to your boss?? etc.

6. You have to be bold, confident (or at least hide your fears), maintain good eye contact, elaborate on your answers (cite real examples if possible) and smile and nod gently as often as you can whenever they are talking to you. Most importantly be polite and honest.

7. Finally have a question (or a few) to ask at the end of the interview. You'll be allowed to ask questions if you have any. Asking relevant questions shows interest in the organization and your interviewers. Questions to ask can bother on things you don't know about the refinery, or about the structure of the training, or, if you like, a question you weren't able to answer during the interview.

...Wish you guys the best.
