Why blog

Its strange,
As at 2006, they were only few bloggers in nigeria. Until people knew how much linda made from her blog. Almost anybody that has a smart phone has a blog. Several blogs, same content. You could google a news and find up to 10 blogs in nigeria with the same content. Copy and paste. Nobody body knows the true source.

To be a successful blogger, you must first decide to blog genuine and unique content. Fear not, no body will be able to copy your posts, unless God wants him to.

Before you jump into or blogger.com or self hosted blog, you have to think
1. Why should I blog, when everybody seems to be blogging
2. What will make my blog unique
3. Where will I get my content from
4. Do I have the resources


1. There are many reasons why people blog; fame, reputation, self satisfaction or money. If you blogging just for money, google AdSense or others, then join the line of people who won't go anywhere. From my experience, you will surely get tired. And every post view on your blog will be from your manual traffic.
Nigerians are spoiling the beauty of blogging. People now create pornographic blogs to get traffic. Flogging our Facebook timeline everyday with seductive traffic. They will come with names like "guy shared pix of his girlfriend after breakup" "girl caught with lecturer" "husband catches wife" or even "lesbians or gay caught" but when you click, you find out its fake pictures from porn.

Smart but you are spoiling the reputation of your blog. And can't rank anywhere even if you have a million hits a day.

People go up to the extent of making fake Facebook pages with names of celebrities or pastors to get likes and traffic.

Before you blog you must find out what you really like.

If its sport, make a sport blog
If its fashion, make a fashion blog
If its photography, make a photography blog
If its your career, make a blog for your career
If its music,
If its video,
If its poetry,
If its on technology,
Etc.
And we all know blogs toping each of this categories in nigeria.

I doubt if any human being here has nothing that interest him or her.
You don't expect to succeed as a fashion blogger when you don't know how to dress or new its trends.
You won't succeed as a sport blogger, if you know nothing about sport.

People that copy paste, have this in common
1. Blogging about what they have no idea of.
2. Blogging about everything
3. Blogging without sense
4. Blogging for money (they won't get)

It's too late to create a news blog. But if you insist, you must have a source.
We already have naij.com and newspaper blogs. Will you have a source better than them?
Am not discouraging you, if you do then you should get ready and stay tuned.

If you decide to blog everything. To succeed, you must allow guest post and not work alone. There is no way you know everything

Things to know before you design a blog

Don't see blogging as an exercise. It's gonna take much of your time, so take it seriously. You have to start well for a smooth journey ahead.

1. Your domain name (www.yourblog.com)
It must be unique
It must be easy to spell and memorise
It must be short
It mustn't look similar to any other blog. Like lindamary.com or justok.com notjustok.net
It must be a .com

2. Web host
You must use a foreign host like www.hostgator.com or www bluehost.com
Godaddy currently has problem with WordPress powered blogs.
The reason I prepare foreign is because they offer unlimited bandwidth and space for a lower price compared to Nigerian host with little space.

Even if your blog is simple. On a Nigerian host, 20gig will eventually finish someday. And down time, problem with emails sending to spam box, etc.

2b, why you should not go for a free host

Your free host like or .com do not give you the control, ownership and branding options that you need.
With self host,
Your website will have only your ads
You get to use unlimited themes and paid themes
You get to use unlimited plugins and paid plugins
In fact you have total control of your website.

Shey you wanna blog when everybody is?
Picture yourself as a fish diving into an aquarium. If you want to be seen or heard, you have to dive into the right spot. Not the middle. Where you dive, is where you remain.

When you have choosen the type of blog you want to create.
Review similar blogs.
Find out why they are exiling
Why they are not
How they get their updates
Their flaws
Know what people think about them

Use the information to plan your blog

Take for instance lindaikeji
-people might not like lots of ads on a page, cox its destracts them
-people might have problems on mobile view
-she might not respond to people's comment

Notjustok
-he didn't post my song because am an upcoming musician
-sometimes PC shows mobile version
Etc

Shelaf
-the cheat didn't work
-I wish he could just teach me stage by stage
-are they tested by him?

Your plan could be
- I need something mobile friendly
- I need to post few ads
- I need to respond to comments or get someone to help me to
- I need to put my fans interest first
- I need a good theme
- I need to test the cheat first before I post. Tell my subscribers that I tested and show them evidence
- I need to create a communication medium
