They look good, tend to give women better posture and make some of us green with envy… only if they didn't hurt as much! While the reason why women still put themselves through the pain of walking with feet at an unnatural angle is still unclear, here are a few tips to help you look hot in 'em heels without destroying your feet!

1. Roll deodorant on any part of your feet to prevent chaffing! It will help them to gently glide instead of rubbing.

2. Opt for styles with buckles and straps, as they help your feet fit comfortably into the heels, and prevent rubbing and irritation that causes blisters.

3. Take care of your shoes, as worn rubber lifts and soles can make them uneven and uncomfortable to wear. Take your shoes to a cobbler once they start to show signs of wear, or ditch them!

4. When you buy a new pair of shoes, take the time to stretch them out and break them in for increased flexibility. (You can even buy a shoe-stretcher!)

5. It's best to buy shoes at night because that's when your feet are swollen. If your toes the shoes squash or pinch your toes, then they're probably best left on the shelf!

6. The size of your feet can change over the years, so be sure to have them measured regularly to avoid buying small shoes.

7. Walk differently in heels than you do in flats! Use your core muscles, stand up straight and propel yourself forward using your hips and legs.

8. Tape your third and fourth toe together! Why? There's a nerve there that contributes to the pain, and stress on this nerve is lightened when supported by the other toe. (Note: This may not work for high-heeled sandals or deep peep-toes.)

9. If your shoes are too tight, fill a bag halfway with water and place the bag inside the shoe. Put the shoe in the freezer overnight, and when the water freezes, it will expand the shoe!

10. When you buy heels, make sure your feet can move in them.

11. If your shoes are uncomfortable, opt for silicone gel inserts designed specifically for heels. They go under the balls of your feet and provide comfort.
