Whose Name Should We Bare As our Surname? Shld it be that of our immediate father or retaining the name of our father's father.
Why i am prompting this is because most parents have failed in bearin their children by their bonafide Surname which i believe should be one's immediate father's name. Is this actually cultural? cos this is mostly practiced in the western Nigeria.
And this has in one way or d other affected the children when they come of age.
For example; My name is Brein and my fathers name is Wilson, while my fathers father's name is Clean.
Should i be addressed as Brein Wilson or Brein Clean

tpia:

normally people go with their father's surname.

A lot of Nigerians switch surnames over generations. Both sides of my family have done that, for example. I also have many friends whose current surnames arent the same as their great grandfathers' or even grandfathers' own.

I think so too.
I use my father's surname.

Yea! Am not against ur plights in anyway, bur is it culturally enclinated that parents shld make changes to their children's surname? Left for me; i'll expect that a generational footprint et landmark be left via d use of both immediate fathers name and fathers father's name.
Lets say am in such a fix now and i need to knw what next to do as to making changes to my surname, Becos most of my name correspondence has reflected on most of my Certificates and the rest!
