A petroleum marketer, Iyabu Nig Ltd, Ayingba in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State has been sanctioned by Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, for alleged diversion of over 80,000 litres of petrol within two days.

The company is to pay a fine of N16m.

Leader of DPR’s Monitoring Team, Mallam Ahmed Gambo Fagge, disclosed this while sealing off the filling station yesterday. He alleged that the owner diverted supplies meant for the station.

According to Fagge, records available to DPR indicated that the station received 40,000 litres in two batches within the week, totalling 80,000 litres.

He said when the team visited the station, neither the petrol attendants nor the manager were on ground to explain why the product was not being sold.

Fagge argued that if a car buys a maximum of 50 litres at a go, it would require 1,600 cars to consume the volume of product supplied, noting that the closure of the station required explanation.

Eight other filling stations were sealed for either selling above approved price, ranging from N93- N97 per litre, under delivery of product to customer by attendants and lack of functional fire extinguisher, while one station was sealed for product hoarding.
