You didn't get your step 1 right.

You're suppose to pick 1 crystal on the left and 3 seed beads on the right and cross with 1 seed bead.

The next is pick 1 crystal on the right and 3 seed beads on the left and cross with 1 seed bead.

Continue to interchange the position of your crystals and seed beads.
