If you didn't foresee this, it's only because you didn't
bother to study the trends. The predictions were
easy, with Islam torn between the politics of cunning
Arab elites and their insular western adversaries. I've always argued that the most effective Da'wah -
invitation to Islam - in this conscious and informed
millennium isn't just the blaring of Heaven and Hell
tales by celebrity clerics, and neither is it the
terrorism of a bloodthirsty cult or the state itself.
The Middle East is a school of life, of humanism and barbarism painted in different hues. The people have
been taught hard lessons by criminally religious
animals who quote the parts of the Qur'an and the
Hadith that favour them, in their superficial
understanding of them, to destroy all the innocent
citizens have ever lived for: family, dreams, love, compassion and serene habitat.
The best way to advertise Islam isn't the
politicization of it or militant installations of its
creeds. It is, without any doubt, best understood in
action, in the attitudes of its believers and leaders
who ought to be models of prescribed humanism and adorable society.
This "Islam is a religion of peace" jargon several
generations of us have offered up in defence of our
belief is no longer effective. How do you convince
the bereaved who have lost their most beloved to the
criminality of ideologues who set out to "purify" Islam, claiming it has been dented by bad Muslims
like me and you, that this unfortunate enterprise of
deaths is indeed the best Deen since Adam?
As Muslims away from the conflict zones, you do not
owe anyone an apology for the inhumanity of ISIS
and the politics of Asad, what you do, however, is exhibiting exemplary pattern of behaviours to prove,
without uttering it, that Islam is an institution of
virtues. But the oil-rich Muslim countries, which
ought to have granted asylum to "brothers and
sisters in faith", failed this test, ridiculing the
essence of brotherhood of faith. So, describing the Muslims in Europe as idiots for
embracing the religion of their hosts is harsh and
insensitive. You don't know the trauma of losing
everything except your soul, and then being granted
a home and shown love by the people your religious
clerics have furiously described as "enemies", infidels never to be trusted.
The world is a rainbow, and we have all seen what
another attempt to portray it as one colour produces:
agony.
Berlin has shown us that you don't need a gun or
sword to spread religion. All you need is an expression of sincere compassion.
