With the exception of Manchester City, virtually nothing has gone to the form book in the Premier League this season and with a number of big matches this weekend, the prospect for more upsets is always there. That’s not a bad thing — upsets mean good odds — but picking the upset is never easy, not least after an international break.

First meets second as City travel to Crystal Palace, who’ve had a superb start to the season, but the big match is the one at Old Trafford between Manchester United and Liverpool. United have won six of the last eight between the two but lost to Swansea last time out; Liverpool made a good start but fell quickly back to earth with defeat at home to West Ham.

This should be a blockbuster encounter but something tells me it might be a little more cagey than usual. Wayne Rooney should be on a high after breaking the all-time England goals record in midweek but has not scored in 10 Premier League games; Liverpool are still without Daniel Sturridge and are still in the process of gelling all their new signings together.
