I attended a pre employment medical. Every other thing went well eccept my bp which was high. Can I be considered unfit for the job based on this? The company in question is a professional service firm.

Was it too high? What was the reading? If its not above 140/90 it shouldnt affect you. It also depends on what your position in the company will be I guess

Yea it was. It read 148/83 at first then 140/89 at the second attempt. I hope the report pays me at the end because I gave my all to get to this stage

Hate to tell you this bro but it may disqualify you for the job. Companies do have medical insurance, having a staff with a medical condition like hypertension increases the bill being paid. No company will intentionally take such a burden. Except in very special cases.
Please reduce your salt intake significantly.

It shouldnt really affect your chance of getting the job but if your employer wants a worker who can withstand stress ie if job is full of pressure they may waNt to look again. Anyway it also depends on how fit the doctor says you are in his report sheet.

It will not,even if its another thing you will just be advised on it,and told to do somtin abt it once u get the Job...high bp is controllable....it is well with u. Congrats in advance.

I had a similar BP reading when I had my medicals too where I currently work. was only advised to work on bringing it down. It won't affect your chances bro. All the best

When it's not the military you are joining, I don't think that reading is outrageous for a civil job.

Hi there. Sorry about your high BP. You need to have it checked,by having lots of rest,and not brooding / thinking too much. Back to your question,NO-it will not affect your chances of landing the job. The medicals are conducted,for the recruiting firms to have an insight into your health/medical history,and for further management. The Doctor should prescribe some pills for and also advice you come back after 2-3 days,for a follow up check.

No. If you had engaged the nurse or doctor, they would have allayed your concern there and then.

This is not crazy going by my experience.

Thank you all for your comments. They have been helpful. I am keeping my fingers crossed. Whatever happens, its a win win situation for me as I have just been upgraded where I work currently and salary review is also in progress. I only need this new job because of exposure and the great boost it will give my career path. The pay is lower than what I currently earn. I will get back to this forum on the outcome.

High Bp is normal...especially when ur anxious about getting the job....when I did my medicals for my present job the doctor told me, I had high BP, I thought it to be true, but I went for a second opinion and a second doctor, the doctor told me the medicals I did was wrong, that my bp is no where high, @that point in time I was anxious....I hope that helps.

It will not affect your chance. 140 is not too high. BP figure 120 is an average, yours is not extreme don't listen to nay sayer. Every active person will definetly have slightly high BP. You will be advised to work on it. I wish you best of luck
