Arsenal Win Gabriel Appeal After Red Card In Diego Costa Chelsea Clash by kanoguy(m): 6:56pm On Sep 22, 2015 |
Arsenal have won their appeal against the
sending off of defender Gabriel in a stormy
2-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on
Saturday.
As the game approached half-time, Chelsea
striker Diego Costa appeared to twice rake
his hands across Arsenal defender Laurent
Koscielny's face before chest-bumping him
to the ground.
Gabriel then came over to defend his
teammate, and he and Costa received yellow
cards following a confrontation.
A minute later, the Arsenal centre-back was
sent off for flicking a boot at the Chelsea
player.
The Gunners appealed against the decision,
and published an FA statement on their
official website on Tuesday confirming it
had been overturned.
The statement said: "Arsenal's claim of
wrongful dismissal in relation to Gabriel has
been upheld following an Independent
Regulatory Commission hearing.
"The player's three-match suspension has,
therefore, been withdrawn with immediate
effect.
"Gabriel was dismissed for violent conduct
during the game against Chelsea on
Saturday [19 September 2015].
"The player is currently subject to a separate
FA charge of improper conduct in relation to
Saturday's game and has until 6pm on
Thursday [24 September 2015] to reply."
Chelsea striker Costa, who was charged with
violent conduct, faces a suspension.
