Manchester United will be hoping to return to winning ways in the Champions League when Wolfsburg are the visitors to Old Trafford. Louis van Gaal's side's European campaign got off to the worst possible start with a 2-1 defeat at PSV Eindhoven but they will be hoping their perfect record against Wolfsburg continues to get them back on track. In their only previous meetings, United beat Wolfsburg in both games in 2009, winning 2-1 at home before securing a 3-1 triumph at the Volkswagen Arena. Team news Four United players were absent from their final training session before taking on Wolfsburg. Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera, Antonio Valencia and Marcos Rojo were all missing from the session at the Aon Training Complex in Carrington on Tuesday morning. Rojo has missed the last two games with a hamstring problem, but Carrick and Valencia started Saturday's 3-0 win over Sunderland while Herrera was an unused substitute. Youngsters Josh Harrop, Donald Love and James Weir were drafted in for the session because of the injuries, while defender Paddy McNair also took part after he recovered from the injury that has sidelined Wolfsburg have injuries of their own to contend with and will be without Vierinha, Felipe and Robin Knoche for the trip to Old Trafford. Midfielder Luiz Gustavo is a doubt and could miss the game after picking up a knock in the 5-1 defeat to Bayern Munich last week. Opta stats No German team has kept a clean sheet in their last 16 Champions League games against Manchester United. The last side to do so were Bayern Munich in March 2002 (0-0 at Old Trafford). him for the last two games. Manchester United have only lost four of their last 65 Champions League games at Old Trafford (W46 D15). United have won 10 of their last 14 Champions League games against German opposition (D1 L3). Man Utd have never lost their first two games of a Champions League campaign. Anthony Martial has yet to score in the Champions League (505 minutes). What are your predictions? |
