Nigeria: NFF Rejects N2 Million Medical Bill From Injured Falcons Player, Ofoegbu

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has turned down what it described as 'outrageous' N2 million medical bills presented by injured Rivers Angels and Super Falcons full back, Gloria Ofoegbu.

Ofoegbu has been in the news since last week following claims in some quarters that she was abandoned by the NFF after her injury.

The Guardian learnt yesterday that the player shocked officials of the NFF on Monday when she presented a medical bill of N2 million from a private hospital in Port Harcourt.

An official of the NFF told The Guardian yesterday that the soccer body suspected foul play in the process and has rejected the bill.

"She brought N2 million medical bill signed by a private hospital, which to us, is outrageous," the official said. "We decided to give her N500,000, but she refused. In the first place, it is team doctors that recommend to the NFF on steps to take concerning injury of players.

"In the case of Gloria Ofoegbu, our physiotherapist has just confirmed to us that the injury she is claiming has been there for the past five years. They carried out an MRI test on Ofoegbu, while she was playing for the U-20 team, and the doctor says it was an arthritis, which cannot be operated at this stage of her career. Some of these players lie so much on their age just to enable them feature for the junior team and that seems to be playing out now.

"But the physio has forwarded the medical report they carried out on Ofoegbu to the NFF and everything will soon come to the open," the official said.

Meanwhile, another NFF official claimed yesterday that those calling for the head of the Chairman of Nigeria Women Football League, Mrs. Dilichukwu Onyedinma, over Ofoegbu's injury, are only looking for a way to 'rubbish' her effort because they feel she is responsible for the sack of former Falcons coach, Edwin Okon (head coach of Rivers Angels).

"The truth is that Okon failed in Canada and the NFF felt there was no need keeping him. Dili was still in Canada when the decision was taken," the official said.
