Papa was in his 50s and semi-retired when I was born, so we had time together. I remember coming back from primary school one day and we both danced shege to this song https://youtu.be/pHGXwQeUk7M |

Besides a lot of cultural music I can't seem to find on YT, one of the easier to find voices I distinctly remember is that of Brigitte Bardot. On contemplating, I'm slightly surprised by that, because some of her work is actually a bit provocative by their standards for us (for them to have let me listen to at that age, I mean), and my folks lean conservative by a notch. I couldn't remember this one by name or artist. It took texting dad with an obscure description to dig it up. I remember it tended to get mad play during car rides/trips. Alright, here's a hodgepodge of the grossly limited stuff I managed to find on YT... Carab Ali G (Somali) - A good cover. Couldn't find the original I'm used to, tho. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDx-pRmd1H8 Cumar Dhuule (Somali) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4EFwAIjCMo Ahmed Naaji (Somali) - My folks are huge fans of Ahmed Naaji, a classic folk Somali artist, so we consequently heard a lot of his music. His music makes me melancholy, tho. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTK_vn_P7SY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5NXWYyGejk Abdiqadir Juba (Somali) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rBm6nTj5Sw Abito Kebede (Oromo) - I heard this an awful lot too. Also a remake. Couldn't find the original. Funny thing about Oromo music is I can usually understand a word or phrase here and there (from the words we share), but with no hope of understanding the full picture https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BEkFLvJV2E Ali Yabeh (Afar) - this is a remake of the song I was looking for, but it's good enough. I can't seem to find the original (running theme). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWyC2WTOVFk&ebc=ANyPxKoLyPGx-AKo28ahdSPRog3qDr9Fh87SjqMw07cJ39wgqQPtMKc-LzwGIC--BrcOQaWAzAW1eE1yukfmdcFBI-p4zjK8Ww Tilahun Gessesse (Amarigna) - This one go mad play! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z31NObd9d30 That's quite a bit, but meh. Someone might like. 2 Likes |

[quote]Human memory is a powerful ability that can bring back the past, both in happy and in sad times and ushers us the calmness of our present life. Sometimes with anger and sometimes in joy. That scintillation of who we are like the brightness of the faraway star yet we ponder what it is as it displays before us. It has been able to distinguish us, by far, from other earthlings and remind us of the past worlds with burst of emotions filling up our colorful sky and brings out the other sides of us. It becomes a literature we coax ourselves to read of what we can be able to gather to learn, filling us with the strength that often swells within us in every narration. Sometimes it comes with warm internal tears. The emotions we really are to life. Nevertheless, memory of a childhood is what this thread is all about as we get older. Looking back at our parents how they have aged and knowing fully well one day they will be eternally missed. Not only that it defines the meaning of life by taking their place also repeating the same circle of life. Nature has done us so much good and memory is one of them we can arguably say is as interesting as life itself. For those of you who love your parents, post songs that remind you of them while growing up and how they impact your life. This thread is dedicated to our parents. It is meant to bring back old memories of growing up as a child through listening to songs they play that make you love them the more each time you listen to the songs. 1) City Kind Of Girl by Dan Seals - My mother used to play this track . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUaWySrS308 2) Still little Bit Of Love by Dan Seals - My mother used to play this song when I was a child. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXagflV9hiI 3) Meet Me In Montana by Dan Seals - My mother used to play this song and it brings me a lot of memories. It makes me love her the more each time I hear it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xlpOjcyst8 Please, add yours. Bop by Dan seals brings back good memories of yore! also all that glitters, when music was an art! |
