Why Are Nigerian Female Comedians Boring? by BabaAlabi: 10:40am On Oct 15, 2015 |
Recently Nigerian female comedian, Helen Paul, embarrassed herself on stage to the extent that she had to be carried off. She resorted to the childish act of making fun of others in order to make the audience laugh. If the most popular female comedian right now in terms of endorsements and tv shows has no option but to rely on insulting her colleagues (even someone as renowned as AliBaba) then that proves female comedians have a long way to go in the entertainment industry. Comediennes like Princess were regarded as trail blazers however most of her recent jokes are usually met with stony faces and awkward giggles. Is it a matter of sexism, where majority of guys in comedy shows just find them unfunny? Are the females neglected in an ad-hoc conference where the guys gather to research new comedy material? It is disheartening that Helen Paul might have jeopardized her career in the industry thereby making herself the laughing stock among Nigerians.

I guess may be they wanna be at the same level with their male counterparts, so they're trying very hard and invariably making them boring. Better still, maybe they're not naturally talented. My question is; how many comediennes do we even have? |
