The 266th and current Pope of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis, has shunned Nigeria in his first official trip to Africa. The pope is said to have decided not to step into Nigeria stemming from numerous attack of Islamist sect, Boko Haram. According to The Vatican, instead of coming to Nigeria, the pope will be visiting Kenya, Uganda and Central Republic. He will be meeting with slum dwellers and refugees. He will also call for dialogue between Christians and Muslims when he visits these three aforementioned African countries next month. He is billed to have a two-day stay in the state capitals of each of the countries he visits. This is the pope’s first visit to Africa and he is all out to have as many inter-religious meetings as possible. Since his election as the first Latin American pope, Francis has met the most needy on each of his 10 foreign tours. In Nairobi, he will visit Kangemi, a slum that is home to 650,000 people. He will say a Mass at a university in the capital. In Uganda, Pope Francis is scheduled to pay a visit to the home for the disabled in Nalukolongo while his last stop is Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic, where the centrepiece of his visit to a country plagued by inter-communal violence is a meeting with Muslim leaders in the Koudoukou mosque. This adds to the numerous times Nigeria has been sidelined from receiving important international figures. President Barack Obama sidelined the vast nation on his first African trip as head of state in 2009. Instead he visited Nigeria’s shrimp-sized neighbour, Ghana, where he lauded the smaller country’s democratic achievements. Obama also left Nigeria out again in his 2013 visit to Africa. tep into Nigeria stemming from numerous attack of Islamist sect, Boko Haram. Can his visit : 1. End bokoharam 2. Make $1=N1 3. Give us 24hours,7 days, 54 weeks uninterrupted power supply? If yes, I'm pained since he won't visit but if No, Nigerians won't miss him. 2 Likes |

Pope francis did not shun Nigeria cos of bokoharam, the three countries (kenya ,uganda and central african republic) presently all suffer from islamic militancy also Plus pope francis isn't goin to ghana or south africa either. My personal opinion,he is going to countries where popes haven't paid any apostolic visit before Pope john paul II visited Nigeria twice 1 Like |

What makes Nigeria more in need of his visit than those countries? Can the Pope visit every country on earth? |

Whats the importance of his visites to all the other countries he had visited? He is not able to defend the word of God as it is stated in the bible. He cant rebuke the evil in the church. How can he make a difference in Nigeria . He not Jesus. Just a star or small god to some folks out there. |

plappville: He's the Vicar of Christ, the successor of St. Peter, the visible head of the Church on earth. That's his importance. |

italo3:I am a catholic and i agree he his the head of the church but he his also the servant of the servants of God as last sunday reading rightly show. So there is no need hyping his significance. I am in support of his choice, CAR has gone through far worse period than us and this countries had never had a pontiff visit them. His visit would definitely be significant to those countries. |

italo3: Prove it from the bible that Peter was in Rome. And the pope is a successor. There is one head of the Church is Christ. As christ is the head of the church so is the husband to the wife. Nothing like visible. Catholic with visible things. Thsts why do much idols in the church. . |

jaegermesiter: Unity is just a word. The pope has no spiritual power of such. He may have power because people see him as thier small god. Has He ever healed the sick, blind etc? Didnt Jesus said his followers will do greater miracles? Let this pope do what is supposed to be done as a leader. |

Unity isn't just a word.....so leadership is healing the blind by your standards...wow......am not so impressed..ryt nw in Vatican, the synod on the family is on going, d papcy and bishops are all busy working on the next document on the family(the small church), A topic the pope preched abt passionately in philadelphia. And for miracle.....googled pope francis and american miracles....do note, that the catholic church dnt publicise neither are they interested in miracles...its abt faith and good works |

plappville:It's historical fact that Peter was in Rome - even Protestant Scholars believe this. Read the early christian writings from the church fathers to find this out. It's also historical fact that the apostles had successors including Peter. An example of succession is seen in Acts 1:21-26. Yes Jesus is the head of the church and King. Please look to Isaiah 22 to find out how the king gave the keys to his servant Eliakim to become effectively the prime Minister with attached authority. Jesus was quoting this scripture when giving the keys to Peter in Matthew 16. In any case, where does it state that everything that happened in the early church is recorded in the bible? Where is the list of books that should be in the bible recorded in the bible? [quote author=plappville post=39168843] |

cooljude: Bros, please choose your words carefully. Am I hyping the significance of the Pope when I call him Vicar of Christ, Successor of Peter, Visible head of the Church on earth? |

plappville: Which Bible? The one that another successor of Peter, Pope Damasus compiled and canonized in 382AD? plappville: And was is not Christ that made Peter the head? "Feed my sheep" is what Jesus told him. Are you not Jesus' sheep that should be fed by Peter? plappville: Nothing like visible, yet the invisible God made himself visible in Jesus Christ. You need to start reading the Bible with your eyes open. |
