Arsenal FC bounced back into contention in Group G with a 2-0 win over FC Bayern München on matchday three and now travel to Bavaria, where they were unbeaten in their last two visits.
Bayern lead the way in the section with six points, three more than the Gunners.

Previous meetings
• Arsenal drew 1-1 at Fußball Arena München in the 2013/14 round of 16 second leg when Lukas Podolski, returning to his former club, equalised within two minutes of Schweinsteiger putting the hosts ahead. Arsenal went out of the competition having lost 2-0 at home, with Thomas Müller on the scoresheet.

• The lineups in Munich on 11 March 2014 were:
Bayern: Neuer, Lahm, Javi Martínez, Dante, Alaba, Robben, Schweinsteiger, Thiago Alcántara, Ribéry (Müller 85), Götze (Kroos 59), Mandžukić.
Arsenal: Fabiański, Sagna, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Vermaelen, Arteta (Gnabry 77), Özil (Rosický 46), Cazorla, Podolski, Oxlade-Chamberlain (Flamini 84), Giroud.

• At the same stage the previous season the Gunners won 2-0 in Germany, Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscelny on target. Again it was the cue for their exit on away goals having lost 3-1 at home where Müller also scored.

• The other two meetings in Bavaria, in the 2004/05 round of 16 and the 2000/01 second group stage, both resulted in Bayern wins.

Match background

Bayern
• This is Bayern's 16th meeting with English opponents in the last five seasons. They have won the last two such home games but previously had not won in five in Bavaria including the 2012 final defeat against Chelsea FC.

• Bayern's overall home record against English teams is W12 D6 L3.

• The German title holders started their 19th group stage campaign by scoring eight goals without reply in their first two fixtures, winning 3-0 at Olympiacos FC and 5-0 at home to GNK Dinamo Zagreb.

• Last term, Bayern reached the UEFA Champions League semi-finals for the fourth time in a row, winning all six games in Munich.

• Josep Guardiola's charges scored 22 goals in their six home games. They beat FC Shakhtar Donetsk 7-0 in the round of 16, FC Porto 6-1 in the quarter-finals and FC Barcelona 3-2 in the semi-final but bowed out having lost 3-0 away.

Arsenal
• This is the fifth season in a row that the Gunners have been paired with German opposition in the group stage.

• Arsenal's 2-0 defeat at Borussia Dortmund on matchday one last season was their first in seven visits to Germany (three of which were won). Their record against German clubs away from home is W5 D5 L6; overall it is W16 D6 L11.

• Arsenal won their other three away games in last season's competition, but bowed out in the round of 16 for the fifth year in a row. A 3-1 home defeat by AS Monaco FC did the damage, a 2-0 away win not enough to prevent an away-goals defeat.

• The Gunners' 18th successive group stage campaign began with a 2-1 defeat at Dinamo Zagreb, a second loss following in London two weeks later when Olympiacos won 3-2.

• Play-offs included, Arsène Wenger's side have won seven and lost three of their last 12 away fixtures in the UEFA Champions League.

Coach and player links
• Per Mertesacker scored SV Werder Bremen's goal in a 3-1 home defeat against Bayern on 29 January 2011. After Arjen Robben's equaliser, the defender's own goal put Bayern 2-1 in front. During five years in Bremen, Mertesacker faced Bayern 16 times, winning only two.

• Tomáš Rosický scored 20 goals in 149 Bundesliga games for Dortmund between 2001 and 2006, winning the title in 2001/02.

• Mesut Özil is a Germany team-mate of Manuel Neuer, Jérôme Boateng, Thomas Müller, Holger Badstuber and Mario Götze. Mertesacker and Philipp Lahm were also colleagues before retiring from international football.

• Robben scored in Chelsea's 2-0 win at Arsenal on 18 December 2005. In his three years at Stamford Bridge, Robben faced the Gunners on four occasions and never lost.

• Müller scored in Germany's 2-1 win in a Paris friendly on 6 February 2013 against a France team who included Ribéry, Koscielny and Giroud. Lahm, Mertesacker and Özil played for the visitors.

• Giroud scored in France's 2-1 friendly win in Bremen on 29 February 2012 against a Germany team who included Boateng, Özil, Müller and Neuer. Ribéry also played for the visitors.

• Petr Čech faced Bayern six times while with AC Sparta Praha and Chelsea FC, his most notable success coming in Chelsea's 2012 UEFA Champions League triumph in the Fußball Arena München.

• In extra time Čech saved Robben's penalty and in the shoot-out repelled efforts from both Ivica Olić and Bastian Schweinsteiger. Müller had put Bayern ahead with seven minutes remaining of normal time.

• International team-mates:
Ribéry & Mathieu Debuchy, Olivier Giroud, Laurent Koscielny and Mathieu Flamini (France)
Javi Martínez, Xavi Alonso, Juan Bernat, Thiago Alcántara & Santi Cazorla and Nacho Monreal (Spain)
Arturo Vidal & Alexis Sánchez (Chile)

Match facts

Bayern
• Bayern's 4-0 success against 1. FC Köln on 24 October was their 1,000th Bundesliga victory and extended their league record of wins at the start of a season to ten.*

• Robben opened the scoring at home to Köln – his first appearance since sustaining an adductor injury during the Netherlands' UEFA EURO 2016 qualifier against Iceland on 3 September.

• Guardiola's team have scored five goals in a match on four occasions this term, most recently against Dortmund (5-1) on 4 October.*

• Müller was on target twice as Bayern prevailed 3-1 at holders VfL Wolfsburg in the German Cup second round on 27 October. Müller has scored 18 goals in 19 outings for club and country this term.*

• Götze was ruled out for ten to 12 weeks after rupturing a tendon in his groin during Germany's UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying loss to the Republic of Ireland on 8 October.

• Robert Lewandowski was the 13-goal top scorer in UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying, equalling the record set by Northern Ireland's David Healy en route to the 2008 finals.

• Lewandowski has found the net 23 times in 19 games for club and country this campaign.*

• Badstuber (out since 21 April, thigh) and Jan Kirchhoff (June, Achilles tendon) are yet to play this term, although Kirchhoff has been an unused substitute in the last four games. Sebastian Rode (thigh) has been sidelined since late September. Medhi Benatia (22 August, thigh) was on the bench against Wolfsburg.*

• Benatia is among the 37 nominees for the 2015 African Footballer of the Year award. The recipient will be announced on 22 December.

Arsenal
• Arsenal's five-match winning run ended when they lost 3-0 to second-tier Sheffield Wednesday FC on 27 October in the League Cup fourth round.

• Alex Iwobi and Glen Kamara made their senior debuts at Hillsborough, where Theo Walcott (calf) and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (hamstring) sustained muscle injuries. Walcott was an early substitute for Oxlade-Chamberlain but lasted only a quarter of an hour before being replaced by 17-year-old Ismaël Bennacer.

• Jack Wilshere sustained a hairline fracture to his left fibula in early August. He underwent surgery in September and is not expected to return until January.

• Danny Welbeck, who has not played since 26 April because of a knee injury, had an operation on 3 September.
