Kelechi Iheanacho is ready to make a first Premier League start for Manchester City, according to Manuel Pellegrini, though the manager has said the striker has to continue to improve.

Iheanacho is yet to start a league game for the club though he has scored once in the competition, a late winner at Crystal Palace in September. Iheanacho also registered in Wednesday evening’s 5-1 Capital One Cup victory over Crystal Palace at the Etihad Stadium.

City host Norwich City on Saturday and, with Sergio Agüero still unavailable due to a hamstring injury, Iheanacho is a consideration for the manager. Asked if he would start with the Nigerian, Pellegrini said: “In the way he demonstrates what he can do, of course he has an option to start.
