Theoretical framework - based upon proposed Theories that previous researchers have tested.

For instance, if you're conducting a research on Employee Motivation, your theoretical framework would be based upon any of the Motivation theories like Maslow, or Herzberg Motivation-Hygiene theory.


Conceptual framework on the other hand gives you the freedom to explain your OWN concepts, paradigms, inputs, outputs and all the variables you intend to test in your analysis. You can identify a lacuna in the theoretical framework, justify your CONCEPTS, and compose your conceptual framework on that basis.
