Android:It is by far the most popular and widely used operating system (OS)The Android OS is based on a Linux Kernel that is specially designed to work on touchscreen phones.

Activity: An activity is a menu inside of an application that can be specifically approached. Applications like Tasker or Activity Launcher are used to immediately open an activity.


Android Debug Bridge (ADB): The ADB is a software that connects or better still bridge the gap between a computer and an Android Device allowing users to send high level command to a user's android device through a universal serial bus (USB).


Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode (AMOLED):a newly designed display panel for mobile phones, television e.t.c. AMOLED design is mostly used by Samsung.

APK:This is similar in nature to the windows EXE ,it is the extension used for android applications, games and files.

Bluetooth: This is a wireless connectivity that is used to transfer files between devices at a very fast speed of up to 24mbps. It is also used to connect android devices to gadgets like headphones,speaker and so on and so forth.

Bootloader: a programme that loads the android operating system or any other system after the device is powered on.

Brick: This occurs when an android device have been compromised by the user, the device will not boot the android OS .There can be the soft brick and the hard brick. The soft brick is when the android device fails to load the OS but can still be potentially fixed while the hard brick is when the device have been fully compromised and there is nothing that can be done except the user go for another device.

BusyBox: set of tools that can only be installed on an Android device that have been rooted in other to add special features to specific applications on the Android device

Carrier: a telecommunication company that provides cellular data and services for mobile phones,tablets and other internet powered devices.

Cupcake: released on April 27 2009 and its the first android version (version 1.5).

Donut: Android 1.6 Donut (API level 4) was first released On September 15, 2009.

Eclair: Android 2.0–2.1 "Eclair" released October 26, 2009.

Froyo: short for "frozen yogurt" released On May 20, 2010, the SDK for Android 2.2 was released, based on Linux kernel 2.6.32

GingerBread: Android 2.3–2.3.7 released in December 2010. The Gingerbread release introduced support for near field communication (NFC).

Honeycomb: Android 3.0–3.2.6 released On February 2011. Honeycomb introduced a new so-called "holographic" user interface theme and an interaction model that built on the main features of Android, such as multitasking, notifications and widgets.

Ice Cream Sandwich: Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich" is a version of the Android mobile operating system unveiled on October 19, 2011 Android 4.0 introduced a new visual appearance "Holo".

Jelly Bean: Android 4.1 "Jelly Bean" was first announced at the on June 27, 2012.

Kit Kat: Android 4.4 "KitKat" was unveiled on September 3, 2013, KitKat focused primarily on optimizing the operating system for improved performance on entry-level devices with limited resources.

Lollipop: spanning versions between 5.0 and 5.1.1.[3] Unveiled on June 25, 2014, during the Google I/O conference, it became available through official over-the-air (OTA) updates on November 12, 2014, for select devices that run distributions of Android serviced by Google (such as Nexus and Google Play edition devices). Its source code was made available on November 3, 2014. - wikipedia

Marshmallow: Android 6.0 was first revealed on May 2015 under the codename "Android 'M'", it was officially released in October 2015.

Custom ROM: a customized version of android designed by independent developer to replace the existing operating system on an Android device.

CyanogenMod: one of the first Android custom ROM.

Factory Reset: used to restore or return a device's software or operating system to its first or initial mode by deleting the user settings and files.It can be achieved by custom recovery or via the device's settings.

Firmware: the set of first software installed in a device including the operating system.

Flash: to install a custom ROM through a custom recovery.

Force-close (FC): term used when an application automatically closes by itself due to bug or if a user intentionally close an application.
